I was so sad about this, then i learned that it only applies to smaller counties.
Not having to pump your own gas is delightful, like, objectively better! Imagine not having to get out of your warm car in the winter!

Yes, and particularly in paris it's rude to just start in on what you want before you hit them with a "Boujour madame/monsieur." 90% of the time I did that they just immediately started talking to me in english.
