i don't care about your athletes. i'm making it more convenient for me to go. but seriously, i should be in today, unless other work crap comes up. which it usually does.

It's crazy how polarizing the opinions I've heard on Five Guys are. It must vary quite a bit depending on the one you go to, because it seems like it's either omgamazing or wtfterrible depending on who I talk to. Might have to seek out the nearest Five Guys and report back.

I think it's a solid A- or so. Great garbage burger-type place. It's not god's gift to mankind or anything.

someone recently was trying to argue that a local UNEEDA-burger place was better than five guys, based on his experience as a server at Red Robin. i am going to start a holy war against him if he ever brings it up again.

That place is supposedly really good. I see it all the time when I go to Paseo in Fremont.

i just tried it for the first time and met the owner this last weekend. it's good, but it would be 10x better if they just learned how to do the patties at five guys, but constructed the same burger. the owner is a bit of a molecular gastronomist.

Five Guys fries are supremely overrated, every time I've had them they've been limp and grossly overseasoned.

I think a lot of it probably has to do with the fries. I imagine they're pretty polarizing anyways and, like with any fries, if you get a poorly cooked batch it will tend to sour you on them. The burgers are good though, and they have a ton of toppings outside of the American cheese fail. Agree with the solid A- grade

We have both here so people can't play favorites with the one in their town and I have a fair amount of experience with both. I agree with this. Really like Five Guys; can totally take or leave In-n-Out.

It's almost like a nationwide chain's various franchises can have differences in quality of product or something.

Meh, it should be expected some places will be worse since cooking is involved. Most likely new customers have huge expectations due to the unwarranted hype. Place is okay overall for a non traditional fast food spot.

Edit: depending on how the franchises are set up, ingredient quality could vary I suppose.

its not even a difference in quality. 5 guys is pretty good. but its just infuriating that the only cheese they offer is american when they a great selection of other really tasty toppings. its like they def trolling with some bacon carmelized onions, sauteed mushrooms and jalas but only merican cheese.

I can just imagine how that P&L discussion went.

"Hey we may be able to make more money if we offer more than one kind of cheese."

"I have a better idea, let's TROLL EVERYONE instead."

[cool story] There is a really good burger place in Toronto called Priest Burger and I thought it was run by a bunch of hipsters who were ironically co-opting religious jargon, but apparently the owners are very religious and they are affiliated with a church and everything [/cool story]
