The one on my actual floor freshman year was basically like "I know you're going to drink, just don't throw it in my face and basically force me to write you up and I don't care. I'm not going to break down your door or anything." The one on the floor with all my friends that I hung out with did shots with us regularly. All the others were super strict for some reason.

Sophomore year the RA's room just smelled like weed and I never met him. Moved off campus after that thankfully.

Years I was in the dorms I was always friends with the older kids who could buy and once the RAs had to hit up our crew to get them to do the same any sway they had over us was gone.

Never got written up. Had countless room parties broken up, but as long as you were smart and like hid the beer behind your back the RAs and dorm cops never gave a ****. Basically if you avoided being stupid loud- you were fine.

I went to school where drinking in residence was allowed/encouraged.

Same here, but I think that was on purpose.

I lived in a wing of a dorm that was over half football players -- location was close to weight room, practice, stadium, etc.

I'm sure it was just a coincidence that the RA was the see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil type.

The things that happened on the floor are likely what most of you would suspect given that sort of set-up.

Only thing really memorable about my RA was that his girlfriend was a screamer.

Was really mad when someone set off the firearm with candles for a birthday cake. Got someone thrown out of the dorm for throwing pumpkins out of the study room window at 2 AM. Didn't care about alcohol.

Same here. We didn't have RAs by floor, we had two for each dorm, and they weren't students, but staff/faculty.

I'm still friends with one of them though I don't see him much (he isn't at the school anymore). He'd occasionally take some of us out to the campus bar for drinks, especially during breaks in the semester and such. He always had funny stories about coming home drunk and watching infomercials and finding himself a few days later with a bunch of stuff he didn't remember ordering.

My apologies, too much alcohol.

Re: RA's, my first RA was a gay ginger. Quite the literal flamer. I once referred to the kid who lived across the hall from me as a '******' in his presence.

At least here, grades are historically higher for greek students than others. I seem to recall that only counted people that actually graduated though. But forced study time, test libraries and built in study partners seems like it would have some benefit.

also my RA was a joke. he kept trying to get with our neighbor so we basically leveraged that into being able to do whatever without ever being written up. in the end my roommate got with the neighbor. i think he got written up once before the year ended

Lived in a frathouse for a year but I wasn't in the frat. Was pretty fun. Lots of physical destruction of things like couches, tables, walls, etc.

Why make friends when you guy just buy them and live with complete douches?

I realize that every greek scene is different, but the frat scene, overall, at michigan was pretty lame. I had some good friends who were greek so I was in my fair share of frat and sorority parties and things vary a ton from house to house, but overall the greek system was basically for out of state kids who didn't have many friends coming into college.
