Wife will be home schooling. Turns out there is a huge community of home schoolers there as the schools are not very good. We plan to be there for about five years, at which point out oldest will be in sixth grade, at which point we will move somewhere with excellent schools.

I just don't see how taking a 6 year old and younger children to Hawaii and then adding homeschooling on the top of it to ever be a good idea. But it's not my decision so good luck.

lolgus. opening young minds to a different culture and insuring a solid education isnt something to fear(fairly confident riverparents will provide this). much bigger impediment to that kids childhood is having your dad be wrong every time you ask for advice

This will probably sound really arrogant, but if we stay where we are our kids will be "the river family kids." We both experienced the same thing, and it sucked. And our parents are narcissistic bullies. We need to get away from them.

Studies show home schooling is beneficial. Not sure how much you deduct for the parent being the teacher though.

There's gotta be a huge sampling bias there.

Every home schooled child I've met has been weird. Sample size of like 3 so seems solid.

Can't believe forum white apologist riverman is going to appropriate native Hawaiians lands.

Sad!

Same here. They were always the weird kids who were like Jehovahs Witnesses, wore weird socks, or had a house that smelled like stew all the time.

Had a kid in my town who was home schooled yet he played baseball on my high school team. AND HE RAKED! Always thought he was lucky he didn't have to attend the school though.

I wouldn't really equate a fairly isolated island that strives off tourism the best place to explore another culture. It's really not much different than living in a random small town in the US even though it will be more ethnically diverse than said town.

If he wanted all that and a very similar situation, New Zealand would be a better option. Homeschooling his kids seems to indicate that really isn't his motivation.

Zuck's in Kauai. Last I heard he was suing neighbors over some super old property rights or something.
