Yeah since I also rewatched band of brothers recently I like imagining his office space character is the same WW2 drunk general who got bored after getting home from the war.

I enjoy how every major storm that we are supposed to get is always softer than predicted. Roads were basically dry. Everything closed. GJGE, everyone. Maybe step outside for a second and actually see what's going on.

Of course it is. You'll need a few pounds of salt, but it's only ineffective in very low temperatures. lol at using a hatchet to break ice.

We don't use salt in PORTLAND bc it would clash with the lead in the water supply. Until the city is shut down for four days due to snow and ice. Then ALL BETS ARE OFF. Seattle delivered salt yesterday.

Gus,

It was 25 years ago and a residential driveway; quit being a contrarian imbecile to stoke your e-boner about maybe technically being right about something as long as you confine yourself to the conditions you've already magically decided must have applied.

After that winter, we got hedgehogs (snow shovel handles with an ice chipper blade) that worked a fair bit better. Maybe only used them once every few winters after that, but proved invaluable when you have to shovel a foot of snow off the driveway to get to the ice in zero degree weather.

Ah yes, I must be the imbecile when I can use science instead of spend hours doing manual labor.

You got got. Your dad could've spent $10 for a bag of salt, but instead he sent you out to laugh at you. Take your L and stop making invalid excuses.

Gus,

One of us is certainly looking like an imbecile here, I will grant you that!

In addition to deezy's point, there's also the fact that the amount of salt required (and the resulting runoff after melting) would have damaged their rather extensive landscaping.

Gus is just truly an incredibly dumb person. It's like for some weird reason he wants to be one of the "smart but kind of a dick" posters and tries to impersonate them but is super rarely correct about anything and absolutely never thought-provoking.

"really dumb and kind of a dick"

not a good combo

Ok, even with his point, a 50 lb bag is still $10. I doubt the landscaping was really on his mind, and he was just unprepared. As you said, you want to reach his level of dadding, which is basically having kids do the bitch work. I'm just pointing out your claim of salt not being effective isn't true.

Gus,

I'm not sure how many more rounds you want to go, but, again, it was near 0 degrees F, so, again, you are completely and impressively incorrect about how effective salt would have been. Your other assumptions are equally ridiculous and barely worth acknowledging beyond how they inform your abject idiocy.

I'm going to doubt it was near 0 degrees if it was that icy. Regardless, there are plenty of salt mixes that are effective at 0 degrees. A nice calcium chloride mix would've been just fine.

The availability in the '90s? I have no idea, but I do know that your dad almost certainly didn't think about salting his driveway if his solution to an ice storm was using hatchets.
