I get that they do what they need to in order to maximize ratings. I also view them (and I think they view themselves as) a news organization, and in that respect, they fail miserably with so much of their analysis and reporting. Just as there's a place for Around the Horn, there's a place for TS% and OBP. I mean, Joe Morgan has laughed at advanced stats for years, people know about it. It's like ESPN is afraid of it for some reason. Why risk being mocked by the ignorant I guess.

I basically never watch ESPN anymore. I did just switch back for TEBOW coverage the last couple days because NFL Network reached an all-time low. Unless you think watching a coke head ride a horse that says TEBOW is interesting.

Haven't watched BBTN in probably 2-3 years.

Only watch football, baseball, and golf anymore. Can get all my golf fix via Golf Channel and CBS or whoever shows some of the rounds. No real "analysis" to be had on ESPN. Not if you watch the entire tourney anyway.

DVR every televised football game. Watch basically all of them and supplement with NFL Network throughout the week. And Showtime's show. No reason to watch ESPN at all except on Monday night, which is getting increasingly difficult with those 3 guys yapping on top of eachother.

Baseball I do watch highlights but the moment the BBTN guys do anything other than show highlights it's channel-flipping time. I'm sorry I don't care what Tim Kurkjian has to say about the last time a player with the letter "V" as his 5th letter in his last name had 4 singles in an away night game. It's like someone thinks it's safe to hit the viewers with inane Kurkjian minutae but WAR is just too convoluted.

My old roommates watched Baseball Tonight almost religiously. And they'd even watch it after spending the entire evening watching the equivalent all-night thing on MLB Network. Drove me nuts.

I mean, is it too much to ask for that one analyst on any network mention how dumb it was for Tony LaRussa to bunt 15x a game in the World Series? Or for anyone to say anything more than "it worked, so it was good strategy" or "it didn't work, that was a mistake" about Ron Washington handing out IBBs like candy.

I don't understand how people DVR live sports and watch them later. I'm not sure if you shut yourself off to results (and if you don't, this doesn't apply), but people who want to watch them with the same "suspense" and don't want any spoilers blow my mind. I tried this with baseball for a while, and it just sucks. I can't even imagine doing it with football. Even if I had a 100% foolproof way to shut out any spoilers, I couldn't handle knowing it's not live.

Maybe I'm just a donk.

The temptation to fast forward and see how it ends is far too great

thisthisthisthis, can't stand it. even if it's just for 15-20 minutes so i can fastforward through the commercials, i hate knowing i'm not seeing it as it happens

Sorry to keep ranting. But like, ESPN on their gametracker on the website actually shows % chance to win the game updated pitch by pitch for baseball games. How on earth are they doing that but failing to cover even basic stuff in not only their broadcasts (more understandable, even though man, it'd be pretty awesome to have a live graphic on the bottom of the screen updating with stats like run expectations in the inning) but also their highlight shows (less understandable) and postgame analysis (unforgivable).

Even simple stuff gets lost on mainstream broadcasts - TBS had the awesome strike zone box that was there for every pitch, but somehow it vanished on FOX's coverage of the World Series. WTF.

Well, you don't know if the fact that you're holding in that overdue piss has caused your team to rally or not.

Basically name an ESPN guy, and the above is true.

Real time strike zone graphic was the most AIDSy part of the playoffs, plus it was way inaccurate to boot. You're barking way up the wrong tree on that one

It's absolutely not better than nothing. There are two acceptable graphics during a sports game: the time and score box at the top, and the first down line. Anything else is distracting and taking up valuable screen real estate.

this works really well for football. wait like 30-60 min and you may get thru halftime without seeing a commercial.

PITCHf/x is laughably inaccurate. They couldn't use it for roboumps or anything like that for years. Still I don't understand the butthurtedness of having it on the screen.
