As I said before, with a Coors Light can it is probably ok to plan on 1/hour.

Was more just a PSA, I guess. It really isn't really a clear guideline anymore.

I always measured "one drink" as

-12 oz. of 5% beer
-5 oz. of 12% wine
-1 1/2 oz. 80 proof liquor

That's about right.

Chime, your myth claim is just wrong. Your cousin either drank more than you realized and/or the beer was really strong. The calculation of how fast alcohol leaves your system is pretty well established

this is the correct way to define it. obviously a long island is not "a drink" despite the fact that it comes in one glass.

What is the correct term for a 55er tho?

6, 12, and 18 are all packs
24 is a case
30 is a rack
36 is a rack (I think?)
55 is a what?

Probably fair, but the thing is most people aren't bright enough or care enough to do that.

How many beers are 12 oz anymore?

How many glasses of wine are literally only 5 oz?

And with mixed drinks there is clearly a lot of variance that can be involved there.

Sounds like you're fine with it.. but it is very common for someone to think they stuck to 1 drink/hour but are still over the legal limit. That's all I was saying. It is easy to get a DUI while not thinking they are drunk. It is very easy to be over the legal limit without knowing it. Before I did some of this work I had no idea how many times I was above the limit.

Yes, at .015/hour.

All I'm saying is a lot of people have a drink that is more than the guidelines and end up getting a DUI. Friendly bartender overpours, drinks a 16 oz instead of 12.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to be over .08.

Well, by the same token, very few beers are exactly 5% alcohol and very few wines are exactly 12%. I do agree with your point that it's easy to go over the legal limit without realizing it, though.

I didn't even know they sold beer in 55-packs until I saw the above picture.

Its easy to avoid a DUI by not driving after drinking. Another method would be to actually do the math behind what youve drank and processed. You can also know exactly how you feel at different BACs. Finally, you could not get pulled over, wreck, or run into a checkpoint.

Thats 4 methods to avoid a DUI and all of them can be done pretty easily.

The going over the limit isn't hard, it's not hard to avoid a situation that requires drunk driving either

Ikes, all I meant by myth is I bet most people don't know what "one drink" means and those that do know what it means don't actually have that exact drink.

Many "responsible" drinkers are over the limit thinking they had only 1 drink per hour. Clearly, all drinks are not created equal.. and things are generally trending to bigger and stronger.

Your first is really the only reliable method. You absolutely can't know how you feel at .07 and .08.

Agreed.

I dunno why you're rolling your eyes. No one should drive after drinking. However, people do get DUI's thinking they are fine because of the 1 drink/hour rule.

Based on that picture I would call a 55-pack an "Octagon". Yes, I know those cases are hexagonal, but Octagon sounds much cooler, and if you're drinking 55 beers, there's likely to be a fight to the death of some sort.

It's not as fun as you'd think. you have to wait awhile after your last drink to get it to work

I wasn't equating natty with blue moon. I was using hyperbole to say that there are far, far better options for everything that the macrobreweries have to offer.

I drink coors light and bud light all the time if I'm watching the game or getting smashed with friends or w/e. But if I want to have a decent beer after work or something to go with a meal then im looking elsewhere.

But this 1 drink/hour thing is not true anymore. Beers have grown, they've gotten stronger.

Anyways, I don't really care what people do or believe.. but just a heads up.
Does your cousin weigh like 100 lbs? Weight matters a lot.

I had to go through DUI training for my job this summer. They say that for a 150 pound male, each drink raises your BAC at a rate of .02 and your body gets rid of alcohol at about a .015 rate. They gave us a Data Master (which is basically a reliable Breathalyzer that police stations use) and I was shocked at how much we had to drink to get to some of the levels you see people driving at.

Not to make light of it, but I'm amazed the couple of times I've seen an NHL player get pulled over and/or die in a crash and their BAC is something insane like .34.

I like this.

And when some jackass comes up and says its a hexagon(or if they say something wrong like a pentagon) they have to shotgun a beer.
