Yup. Never reading or posting in that thread. Just ban ikes from posting politics in FAQ and we'll be good to go.

If you're offering sympathies directly to someone directly impacted by a tragedy attacking that is distasteful, sure

Someone on facebook with a few hundred friends who aren't in the region impacted much less actually impacted, who exactly are you offering your sympathies to? What good are they besides attention whoring?

It's a pretty lame practice
This is a good point and in the interest of INTELLECTUAL CONSISTENCY I was skewering the practice of putting up French flag Facebook photos after the Paris attacks. Not a fan of empty signalling.

obv your call, not gonna be getting MAD if you continue the discussion here
I think politarding in here should be banworthy now that there is a safe space for the topic

I don't even know how to respond to the "LOL an assault rifle is not a defense weapon" position, wtf are you even talking about? What is best for resistance? A dog, a baseball bat, a pipe bomb, a hand gun, or an assault rifle?

You can kill a lot more people with a car than a gun

If you argue for the disarmament of all citizens you'd at least have a reasonable point(a dubious totalitarian one though), but "gun control" and "common sense gun control" doesn't argue for that, the core of that argument is better monitoring and control over it's citizens.

FACK is at least for now a SAFE SPACE (lol)

It's an election cycle. We can always undo the decision, but the politics stuff will only grow over the next year.

Yeah, like, let whatever the actual immediate conversation is finish up, and then for all future politics, take it to the Politics Containment Thread.

dafuq are you doing with a car to kill a lot more people than you can with a gun?

also, I am for gun control, specifically for making possession illegal for all people inside the USA. That is a stance a fair many people have on the issue.

Clark,

What do you think Japan would be like from a crime/overall national health standpoint if it was 30% Chinese and 10% Black(This isn't a race thing but a stress/anxiety/non homogeneous thing)

What are your thoughts on Japan #1's immigration policy?

Thing is, I think the FAQ is sort of a naturally flowing conversation that is generally lighthearted banter but can ultimately turn to politics when there are newsworthy events, similar to irl conversations that grown-ass adults have.

Topics are generally cyclical and there are a handful of topics that come up in the FAQ that I don't care for and I just skip over. For instance, I skip over just about everything music-related.If that's where the conversation ends up, sad day for me. As with any other FAQ topic, it will pass soon enough.

Segmenting or restricting conversation topics hurts the free-flowing nature of the FAQ imo.

this is a well argued GOOD POINT and has successfully moved my anti-faq politarding position back towards the middle

If the "agenda" is "putting a stop to mass murders in America", call me "agenda-driven" all day.

More South Park logic. "Uhh, well, that might be the right thing to do, but you're so smug about it, so **** you."

Mmm, so, if you just flip what the mass media ACTUALLY DOES after a mass shooting, and assume people on the other side think the exact same but in reverse, you have your false equivalence! And you can stay right there in your snorting-and-eyerolling caring-is-stupid Smug Middle.

I love how the South Park Libertarians always accuse everyone else of being smug, when they're worse about it than anyone. Taking false middles because every side is stupid and they're so above it. I'm convinced Matt and Trey would actively sabotage projects that benefit humanity just so they could laugh at the people who cared about them. Remember their climate-change denial?
Nath, as always, we can have a reasonable discussion about things, or you can strawman and ad hominen me from the get go. Your choice.

Like I doubt you even get what my point was. But you certainly made a snap judgement and let me have it.

OK so they're too high according to you. The fact that they are set means the whole providers charge whatever they want is kind of bunk.

that are also providing a higher quality of care than we are in the US. If Americans were truly demanding the best health care they would go to Europe.
No, they aren't. The only way you can make an argument that Europe has better quality of care is if you only use life expectancy. That's dumb because it doesn't account for obesity, violence, car accidents and the like.

The best hospitals, medical schools, research centers and doctors are largely located in the United States. The best outcomes for treatments of many serious diseases are best in the united states. A disproportionate amount of new drugs, devices and procedures were developed in the united states. Europe does not have a higher quality of care than the US, they work with a healthier population.
