Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog, Poster Wake, and Forum Discussion

I mean, there's a "it may not be fair, but here's the real deal" lesson in this. [1]

1. If you constantly piss of people
2. Then they report posts and the mods have to keep getting involved
3. This happens over and over
4. You get warned, banned, whatever.
5. Mods keep wasting time on it. Publicly and privately.
6. Meanwhile it keeps being a distraction and frustrating regular posters
7. This leads to even more mod time and discussion and debate
8. This cylce repeats. Over and over.
9. Eventually, you piss off enough posters and waste enough mod time that it's not worth it anymore and you get to go away.

I've serously spent tens of hours debating/discussing/defending Epi and TuT publicly and privately over the last year. It's not worth it and while I'm not glad they chose to get themselves kicked out, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

ETA: No mods anywhere else on this site or in most corners of the internet would go through the gyrations this mod group goes through to AVOID permabanning posters. If you actually get permabanned, it's quite an accomplishment.

[1] Though it's really perfectly fair, because it's not like there aren't plenty of warnings given

This really is pretty much how it works. I think what happens is it gets to a point where no one cares enough to stick up for a poster anymore and then eventually they're gone.

fwiw, on bitchface in particular, several mods from other forums have wanted to permaban him for awhile and weren't very happy that I allowed him back after the horsepr0n incident. So even if it didn't happen itt, it would've happened shortly just from no SE mod bothering to stick up for him anymore when he pissed all over another forum. I think it goes unrealized by many how many times we as a group go to bat for the relatively loose (by 2+2)standards we go by in SE or stick up for a SE reg when they are making mods in another forum furious.

Even though this is a petty and childish idea. I would still think it would be cool if we could elect and demote mods every x weeks/months. I am sure BFace will be a top candidate as I would immediately vote for users of his quality. also it would be nice if MEb could not be demoted. the guy is overlooked far too much. He really is the best mod in SE.

Like in sports, it becomes a fad to make fun of certain athletes. like LeBron James for example. there are tons of haters who dont know **** or dont know what they are talking about who hate him. same with some posters around here. People jumping on other users dicks just to hate on a certain user.

Cliffs*

Free BFace
MEb is good and people dont know how to rank their mods.

In many ways yes. Which is weird to me that its somehow evolved to that point, as I don't really feel we've ever changed our standards much.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog, Poster Wake, and Forum Discussion

The only 2 posters I miss are Thremp and GREEEEEEAR, though I understand why the mods had to kill off Greear. Where I come from, calling people in power "cum guzzling ****suckers" is an affront. They had no choice. But I thought GREEAR was pretty harmless and his persona was funny, he was unlike the other regs.

I think Thremp works better in BFI though. So I may be falsely attributing some of his good BFI posting with good SE posting, dunno.

I also can't understand/believe why people are coming to Epi's defense here. He's the one who chose to be really, really bad at posting. He may have had some level of immunity around the NBA threads (from the sounds of it) but he basically used the NFL threads as his personal toilet.

its funny reading that assani thread from the archive that was linked earlier. there was a ton more vitriol flung and im sure no bans or warnings arose. hell, one of the most strict holier than thou current mods was a prime participant.

It's funny seeing extant SE regs arguing 7 years ago. Crazy how time has gone by.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog, Poster Wake, and Forum Discussion

I'm pretty sure the whole reason Clark got modded here in the first place was because I started an ATF thread about needing another mod here besides meb (back when he was awol) solely because far, far, far too many dog**** threads were being created every day.

do i think the forum is better off without them? no, but the forum would be worse off if these people were allowed to continue on their course. they had their great moments, but they had 10x as many terrible thread derails and wastes of time.
Forum is better off without those people AINEC. Love the modding.

Zero problems with the modding...the only people who seem to hate it are the ones that troll constantly and get infracted for it, and the SZ members (which prob goes hand in hand on 2nd thought)

Reading through that thread, Assani just completely crushes everyone. He totally owns them. His level of sustained dominance is unreal - that was 7 years ago! - GOAT poster.

thank god, was about time tut/bitchface got banned, and in the same week as epi makes it that much sweeter. only gripe is that it took the formerly toothless mods so long to pull the trigger on such an obvious and required move
