well, we didn't even have individual NHL threads until Muresan's ill-fated decision to start one in the middle of that 1st round series. was their one in the 2nd round too (MON/PIT)? then after that one for each CF, and the SCF.

idk, the idea was that maybe one might be held for quality discussion and the other for LC/NC type in-game posting, trolling, and such. but you're right there didn't really end up being much good discussion, traffic and interest seemed to dry up as the teams got eliminated. probably should have expected that, i guess. but also this:

that thread is going to be a giant mess. it's going to be tough for any good discussion to take place in it, but maybe that's the way we'll go with it then. wonder how many posts/day there are going to be too, might be pretty tough to follow, but w/e.

Wangz/Sharks was a 2nd round thread that brought about AJ. SE has not been the same since.

I think ActionJacson meant he had a 3.33 average BAC. Which is pretty impressive and also explains his posting history.

Meh, my vote is to leave the WC and USA threads please. The USA thread has a fairly concentrated group of regs who have been discussing the team over the past 2 years or so. It's generally where I go to talk about the team with them. Plus, it's going to continue on past the group stage (hopefully), and even past the WC itself.

For example, the USA plays a friendly against Brazil in August, there's the continental championship called the "Gold Cup" coming up next summer and discussion of that will go in the same thread. In a lot of ways, the USA WC thread is essentially a single-team-season-thread that never ends, let it remain separate please.

As for the general WC thread, I wouldn't be super bothered if it was locked, but it's just one more thread...I would leave it. Like, say there's an issue with security (like the recent stampede at a game in South Africa that led to injuries), or controversy surrounding the ball they use or whatever...that stuff belongs in the general thread.

If you want to post a tactical preview of the ARgentina vs Nigeria game...that obviously goes in the appropriate group thread.

Is there any reason why the USA World Cup thread isn't in the single team forum?

The only argument I see for the WC and US thread is "that's where regs and I like to post!"

The US thread isn't a big deal, it only hurts one other thread. Plus it can be moved to the sub forum if needed.

WC thread being open hurts every thread like I said, and it will be annoying to go between that thread and all of the group threads to keep up w the discussion.

i dunno franchise, i think that 'world cup general discussion thread' is pretty necessary

pretty much as essential as the nba playoffs general discussion thread has been the past couple months imo

general thread is fine for topics that pertain to the whole tourney, such as bitching about the new ball

The group threads with one megathread is fine. It's the same as the NBA playoff setup (which works well), and this will have more traffic.

Oh please, the tournament hasn't even started yet and 6 of the 8 group threads are on the front page. How about a couple group threads for the important ones and then a catch-all thread for the teams nobody gives a **** about? We really need an entire thread for Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, and Greece to satisfy the dudes with their mouths latched firmly on Messi's balls and the 12-tabling South Korean grinder nits that failed at Starcraft and call every preflop 4bet at 1/2 NL?
