I happen to really like Tool, but this seems pretty accurate. Same thing with Radiohead imo.

Man, I'm ****ing old. I've never heard of half of these bands. Concerts I would go to (complete list):

U2
Rolling Stones
Bob Dylan
Pearl Jam
Dave Matthews Band (flame away)

Well, your opinion doesn't jive with the facts (and I'm not talking about my personal opinion, I'm talking about Radiohead's popularity).

I saw Dylan 4-5 years ago and the whole concert i was oscilating between "HOLY **** THATS BOB DYLAN" and "Ugh has 70 year old Bob Dylan permanently ruined 20 year old Bob Dylan for me?"

Starting to pick up on Radiohead now, but RHCP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Radiohead still imo. Anyone who doesn't have RHCP in their top 5 (accounting for personal preference/taste) modern bands... I disagree with heavily.

And to whoever asked, I only brought it up because I remembered bobbo was a huge fan and thought it was kind of funny they were overwhelmingly "meh" at first.

RHCP has been #1 for me for as long as I can remember. Tool in my top 100? Hell if i had a bottom 100 tool would easily be in that list.

I have RHCP's discography and whenever I look at it, I just think "why did they make half of these songs?" It's not as bad as Billy Corgan, but they don't seem to cut too many songs and mostly everything they record ends up on their albums. Radiohead has a few songs that could have been left out of albums (often with a B-Side being better then it, although there will be fans who will vehemently defend said song, be it The Gloaming or w/e), but RHCP have dozens of songs that shouldn't have cut it.

RHCP's lyrics are just so awful, it's hard for me to picture people thinking they're on the same level as Radiohead. They're a fun rock band but nothing they do is really close to what Radiohead does as far as artistry, ambition, intellect, etc. And those tend to be the things I value most in music.

I lean the same way, and totally understand what you're saying, but have a super huge exception for RHCP for no explainable reason. I just ****ing love them like no other. The chorus to Around the World was my ringtone for three years. RHCP just kind of does it for me on some level. They have soooooo many individually great songs.

My favorite band of all time is Pink Floyd, and Lupe Fiasco and Kid Cudi are my two favorite rappers; I'm all about "artistry, ambition, and intellect", but Radiohead seems like they're trying too hard (to the point that it seems artificial), both from listening to them and things I've read about them (specifically Yorke).

One thing I can say about RHCP is that Californication the album is way better than Californication the show.

Unless you're listening to a lot of Mother's Milk and One Hot Minute, I'm going to have to disagree with you. There are maybe 1 or 2 songs on their major albums that are not at least decent imo. But musical taste in one of the most subjective things there is.

It is admittedly at least part nostalgia, but Californication is my all-time fav album

I want to say that's weird, but I got my first Pixies album in high school (Doolittle, about 10 years after it actually came out) so maybe it's not. Of course, they weren't reunited and touring then, though I did catch them in 2005.

I saw him in 2001 or 2002 and he sounded fine. I skipped him at a festival in 2007 (because I was still in the WCOOP, lol) and reports were that he was terrible. I think his voice must have just hit a wall around then.

And I kinda see this in the exact same light. It's a fair point but it's more or less rooted in the exact same premise, just on the other side of the coin.

The show was only 3 months ago, so I'm definitely not mis-remembering anything, just remembered there was one old guy by himself (balding ldo) near the end of the row by a couple who danced in their seats the entire time, swinging and stuff.

tschubauer, don't really mean anything by it and just a shot in the dark, are/were you a big Blink 182 fan?

But yeah it kind of depends on whether or not you like the more funky stuff. I do, so Blood Sugar Sex Magik is my favorite album, whereas some people probably don't like half the songs on it. They do have a lot of songs that would make me say "who the **** do these guys think they are?" if I hadn't heard their amazing songs (which there are like 30 of).

lolBobDylan, Roger Waters sounded amazing at 67.

Radiohead are my favourite band. But these things are subjective, and I long ago realised that people have different tastes and arguing about stuff like 'the best band / movie / album / novel' of all time is a real waste of effort.

I also don't hate on RHCP simply for John's work on The Mars Volta albums and Omar's solo work, for which he's nearly as bad as Corgan.

From 2009-now Omar has released 14 "solo" albums, an album with John Frusciante and the lone The Mars Volta album to be released in this period.

@uscpf, Yeah, but Waters also uses pre-recorded supplementary backing vocals for his live shows. Granted, he plays in much bigger venues, but it's still worth pointing out.

Not complaining, I saw him on his DSotM tour at the SkyDome, amazing show. Terrible venue, amazing show. And I'm a maaaaaassive Pink Floyd fan, but lol Waters is a ****ing uberdouche.

wait, people are really putting red hot chili peppers on the same level as radiohead? lol wow. i must be in the wrong conversation.

rhcp had 1 awesome album, blood sugar sex magic. everything else has been awful to mediocre.

edit: it would be like saying "lost" is close to "the wire"
