I can see why people read Simmons, but doesn't Reilly just infuriate everyone every single time?

Academics -- I wouldn't bring this up at meetings, Nebraska. Until you joined, the Big Ten was the only Division I conference to have all its members in the prestigious Association of American Universities, which selects only the finest research and academic institutions in America. Sad how some people don't see the value in your night crawler research. Ah, well, when's the last time a bunch of lab geeks put 85,000 fannies in a stadium, am I right?

'm afraid Wisconsin is you, Nebraska, only with much better parties and more wins.
More wins eh? better check on that

You draw more for your spring game than the Illini do for regular-season ones. I'm not kidding. You drew 66,784 for your spring game this year. The Illini didn't even average that for home games last year.
That's because the Illini's stadium capacity is 62,000. ffs

Also, those games at Memorial Stadium with the freezing rain and the howling wind and nothing around for 100 miles to hide behind but corn stalks? They're not fun. Put it this way: You're going to have LOTS of visiting team tickets to re-sell.
what a troll

I love Ween to an unhealthy degree. Like, seen them live on a number of occasions, will put them on the jukebox if I'm at a douchey bar (and they have one of those internet jukeboxes that has Ween available) just to troll everyone else. Having said all that, your sentence makes no sense.

That's the thing, I find that "real musicianship" stuff that some people love always just comes across as elaborate wanking to me. I liked Aenima a lot, but the rest I could take or leave. I'm interested in music as a form of expression, not as a technical exercise.

Oh I dunno, I think it makes sense in a few ways. They both have insanely devoted fans, they both are not afraid to completely switch up their style, and they're both bands. And of the two I prefer Ween, thus poor man's version

There's nothing like seeing an opening band you don't know, then after ~10 minutes realize their entire performance is basically one extended solo.

Yeah, part of the mystique is because they only put out an album every 4-5 years, but so what? I don't want to hear stuff from a band until they're ready and committed. In an era where it's so easy to suffer from overexposure and overproliferation, Tool avoids falling into that trap.

ldo I'm biased because the big Rush/King Crimson/Yes fan in me absolutely loves the complexity and chops, but I really do think in Tool's case, they live up to the immense hype and deliver the goods. Their Amiphtheatre show in '06 on the 10,000 Days tour is still one of my greatest concert moments ever. Just an amazing production.
im sure tool is technically proficient, even brilliant, but they sound like crap and elicit musical connection.

radiohead is ok i guess. kinda depressing and absurdly pretentious but they sound ok often enough.

Yeah, but they don't really sound alike at all, nor would I say they're trying to accomplish the same things. Radiohead experiments more with "their sound", expanding into new formats, structures, etc. whereas Dean and Gene Ween are insanely gifted songwriters, but they still basically just write pop songs, albeit excellent, goofy ones in every style under the sun.

The worst thing about Tool (no offense to Geddy) are there fans. It seems like 5% of ppl think Tool is the greatest band of all time and the other 95% don't have them in their top 100.

Yes Rick. Buckeye fans were perfectly tolerable and reasonable until 3 months ago.

I don't really know where I'm going with that, but I think Radiohead and Modest Mouse are the only shows you can go to now and have an average age of like ~22 despite each band both being at their peak in popularity, having been around for 15-20 years and achieving their critical peak around 10-15 years ago. From my experience anyway.
Haven't seen either live, but I feel like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day have this same sort of thing, or maybe did a couple years ago.

I wrote a bit about Green Day and RHCP then deleted it. It was more teenagers and late 20s/early 30s for each when I saw them. Pretty different to a lot of bands that have peaked in popularity recently. Not really similar to Pixies, Radiohead, Black Keys, Phoenix, The National, Arcade Fire, The Strokes or other headlining acts I've seen receently. Felt kind of out of place, but they both were good. Probably more true 5-7 years ago.

Almost every concert has a younger crowd. I go to probably 20 a year and at 30 am basically always in the eldest 10%.

Even bands who haven't done anything good for years, and were never that big anyways.

Reel Big Fish show last weekend had tons of 19-22 year olds. Kinda blows my mind. Their "peak" was when I was in HS forever ago, but still a young crowd.

I think more young people just go see shows.

Wait, what was the age distribution for the Pixies show?
