What forum does Dids even moderate? Isn't it TV or something? That's like calling Buzz a terrible Omaha mod. That may be true, but who gives a ****. No one reads it.

FYP

I'm not sure I'd say endlessly either.

I don't think SE is close to politics yet, it's just an example of the sort of thing that can happen when you allow posters to continually post things they know not to be true to just get a rise out of people. It's not so much about heated arguments or strong opinions- it's when you combine all of that with people who are perpetually disingenuous with what they post in the name of getting a rise. (again, not really saying this happens often in SE, although the Variety Show draft was somewhat akin to that).

He was foisted upon the main OOT forum under cloak of darkness or something.

I don't think forums that are prone to a lot of argument and trolling benefit from giving people a lot of rope.
speaking as someone who agrees with dids far more than i'd like to admit, this is not correct. i think in politics it might be, but in SE, it's just fun to troll. it's part of the enjoyment of being a sports fan. i think the SE mods are doing a pretty bang-up job.

Is it just because I'm lol Canadian that I'm not reading the threads where SE is apparently so awful? I didn't realize the haters were this mad recently over SE's supposed devolution.

Given the posters involved, it probably has to do with TZ.

Fair point. I think the things I have seen have been less sports related and more the non-sports drafts and some of the TZ kids showing up in other forums. I do think the SE mods do a good job- I just also think that it's not unthinkable that at some point (if something changed) more aggressive/subjective moderation could be needed- especially in an environment where it's agreed that some degree of trolling is fun/acceptable.

Just for full disclosure:

I was originally modded just to run the OOT poster draft, and then killa decided I would stay to piss off Tuq (I was no party to this at all). It happened to be at a time when a lot of the other OOT mods were busy having kids and other ****, so it worked out. Beyond a terribly insensitive thing I did last week, it's pretty much been without complaint.

i agree that in the future non-sports drafts should either be heavily moderated or the commissioner of the draft should be very selective about who gets to draft. but in general, the threads i post in don't have many problems.

I agree kinda, but only with the disingenuous stuff. But then again it is why Epi is banned and Bitchface is on a short leash along with the rest of their group. Don't need to punish everyone who gets pissed off and trolls but have to keep a tight leash on the ones that just bring everything down

By and large things are better since Lloyd and t36 brought everything up and it seems most people got the message after some strict moderating. Still not "perfect" but nothing really worth complaining about imo, but the whining has been funny.

a disturbing number of people think of politics the way most people think of sports (you identify with a team and mindlessly root for it) and therefore probably get just as much enjoyment out of trolling the opposition as we do.
