Part of the reason I lurk the MLB thread but read the vast majority of it is because I just don't understand the stats. And as I've said previously, I have no desire to learn the stats. I am one thats perfectly content with avg/era/obp with the knowledge that they are very inferior stats.
Two reasons I have no desire to learn is that among my friends baseball is the most discussed sport(they understand that football is my job and discussion is minimal understanding that). These guys are casualsportsfan.jpg and avg/rbis/hrs/wins/era are their best arguments and I just don't want to get into how its flawed because its just friendly convos.
The second part is that baseball is my "get away" sport. I dont watch basketball or hockey(though I'll have the games on my TV its more noise than anything). I just want it to be casual for myself rather than get caught up with it. And that casualfan.jpg doesn't go well with the MLB regular season thread(rightfully so as the stuff gets lol'd at in the NFL threads, I get it).
