Re: SE FAQ and Foodblog

Last post from me on this:

mjw,

Your attitude about that Office thread is basically exactly the problem that exists in SE.

1- An inability/unwillingness/contempt for any actual discussion.
2- Instead of ignoring the conversation you don't like, throwing out ad hominems at posters and being needlessly reductive with their arguments.

And how does mjw's posting in another forum justify banning Victor again?

sure, and you know what else leads to these types of problems? making up a story about a regular user committing suicide

of course the criteria are going to be ambiguous and arbitrary - wtf do you want, a bunch of codified rules? it's the internet, bro, don't take it so seriously

Re: SE FAQ and Foodblog

An unwillingness for actual discussion... you mean like when I explained why your position was ****ing stupid, Pudge called it reasonable, and you disappeared from the conversation?

My position here has nothing to do with an unwillingness to debate, I don't mind people like Triumph, who are active in SE, giving their opinions.

You know those people you and others in OOTV always complain about who casually watch a TV show, don't know what they're talking about and produce nothing to the conversation as a result? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PivWY9wn5ps&t=1m6s

nahh, I want weekly SE Survivors ldo

In this case, the offenders didn't make anything up. Rat posted 'gg life' and disappeared from 2+2 and skype. It's clear that Vic/BF were making a funny about an unfunny topic, but there was no conspiracy here.

Only quoting this because it's the most recent example but jfc there has been WAY too much of this ITT lately. Being a ***** to other posters. Asking for bans. Basically doing all the stuff that if you read page 1 is supposed be not allowed in SE.

This is just another "look at me I'm tuq I'm banning people!" moment. Notice how every time he bans someone he gives nice theater on how/why they deserve to be banned? The other mods make a note on the first page and move on. You don't even notice Clark or sethy banning people because its easy and simple when they do. I don't even like sethy, I think he's an assbag, but he's been a great job modding from what I can tell. tuq on the other hand puts on a nice play for people and calls those who question him ****ing stupid.

Just look how stupid these bannings are. NO ONE EVEN KNOWS WHAT FLYINGRAT WAS DOING. He could be on a vacation from SE, he could have committed suicide, WHO CARES SINCE WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE. And I thought this was the liveblog/general thread anyway? Who the **** was talking about sports here?

Just ask yourself this question.

If FlyingRat was a Suns fan from Phoenix and not a French Canadian, would he be banned?

If you had to think about it, then you probably know the answer.

Town, you seem angry. I might even advise taking a "chill" pill.

WWDWD? Did he run around yelling and screaming through the house when Mike and Shannon were ousted? No, he kept his emotions in check and won in the end.

I'm not certain how the mods moderate, you may be bringing up some good points.

It's not about what FR was doing. It's the trolling resulting from his supposed death. Really just unacceptable, first for FR himself, but secondarily to the mods who built this forum. Trolling and leveling are not two of the legs by which this forum stands.

If the smokers didn't take out Chilltown, who would have won in the end? I think it's plainly obvious.

I'd say for every ban made publicly known, there's probably 4-5 where that isn't the case. How exactly can you prove me wrong on this? You can't. Plus, there is actual value to pointing out some bans, 1) that reports have been responded to and action taken, and 2) to show people that certain things aren't allowed.

Many times, in order to avoid the grandstanding to which you allege and avoid disruption, I'll just send a PM to someone letting them know a situation has been handled.

But of course you don't care about any reasoned explanation, you're just trolling and contributing nothing as is your standard.

i think it's far worse to intentionally be wrong by leveling with like 90% of your posts, or more. but that's just me. ideally if/when people are wrong, maybe there's some discussion to show them exactly how/why they're wrong, and maybe they, and others, learn something in the process. cause obviously every smrt guy here always knew everything that they know now, right?

i remember seeing a post by Assani talking about what he has learned from posting/reading here, and how this forum has helped. and he admitted that he started from a point of poor understanding of key things wrt basketball, and maybe other sports. luckily every other reg was born as a super genius.

By the way, as it's clear that you being banned from this forum permanently would provide an immediate, marked improvement in its tone that I will be glad to oblige. And grandstand while I do it.

I was unaware skype crew trolled pudge's draft (is that the vacation destination draft? Haven't checked it.). Then ban them for that. It's childish, dumb, and against forum rules.

After realizing le rat posted gg life, it makes all the vague jokes about it afterward pretty funny, regardless if rat was in on it. Tuq's first post on the subject alon with his banhammering was just beyond stupid. Completely, 100% baseless. That's it an that's all.

Banning high profile posters and then explaining why seems about a billion times better than not explaining why, regardless of whether or not you agree with the ban.

I actually meant to post something along these lines - being honestly wrong about something is >>>> than "leveling" more than very occasionally.

And by leveling, I mean something completely different than the back and forth banter and trash talk which we all enjoy as sports fans.

if we had complained to the mods, guess what would've happened? oh right, they might've done something, and we'd have exactly these conversations, you'd all be like 'psh, c'mon, that's not that bad' or 'what if person x actually believes that? you can't prove that's trolling'.

iyam, you can't ban someone for trolling once, or twice, or five times, or twenty times. it's when it's a continued practice to intentionally annoy/make mad people who aren't in your clique - and that person is continually warned about that behavior and continues to do it. that's what should get a person the heave-ho.

in before 'use the ignore list'
