Only reason I was ever lenient on it despite having a strong hatred of it(hell I'm sure I did it in the past too) is that its so low content in the gameday threads that FF talk really never derailed the already derailed commentary.

I wish there was more content but that is never happening. I definitely wouldn't mind being very harsh about fantasy talk in gameday threads it being an auto-1day temp ban if I see it. Doesn't add on to your SE ban count. But I don't think this is something the masses would want, but I'd be all for it.

No one gives a **** about your fantasy teams.

Edit: God I really wish people wanted more content about football around here. I really do miss people caring.

But, I think I'll definitely enforce the "if you are one of the tools in the fantasy league who's thread is in the main forum its an instant 1-day ban for FF talk in a gameday thread."

I appreciate the underlining of "tools" for ease of visual parsing.

So, Needle, how do you feel about the incipient SE fantasy leagues?

I get what you're saying Needle.

I think it's tough because in other sports, you can see how something developed and kinda break down plays as you go. In football, you need to watch replays and see all the moving parts to really get a better understanding of what matchups are dictating a game, why certain things are happening, etc.

Combine that with the fact that it's the freakin weekend and baby we just tryin to have us some fun, leads to the excessively low content posting in gameday threads. I'm fine with it because personally it makes NFL watching way more enjoyable.

I think the weekly discussion threads last year had some very solid discussion when not being derailed by 4. Eagles and I feel like that high level should continue this year. There is an issue though in that football has a very high barrier to entry in that it takes a lot of film watching and analyzing to have a truly high level discussion about anything that goes beyond statistical breakdowns, and that's something I and a lot of others don't have the time to commit to.

I don't know. I've received PM's in the past that actually told me that my breakdowns are awful and that I should stop talking about OL play because its boring. Which is why I flocked to skype so I could have serious conversations.

A mod was the biggest offender of causing the weely threads to derail into low content trolling.

fantasy football talk in gameday threads is pretty weak, but i mean, those threads are as low content as low content gets. that's kinda the point though, isn't it? when you have a thread about 6 hours of live action spread across 15 different games the notion that serious business discussions with content can actually happen is a pipe dream

the moment CUTLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHing 50x becomes banworthy will be the death of fun

I almost prefer someone trying to defend their awful ides rather than some of the garbage that spew out of the high volume-low content people. But it really is some awful of both worlds.

Well, yeah, it's what I think every single poster in sporting events wants outside of maybe 4 or 5 people which is why it's great there is somewhere else to go.

I think Zimmer has it right - I find my interest in football diminishing. I like it okay, and it's exciting, but it's hard for me to understand what's going on beyond the surface level at any point, and certainly how 95% of color commentators talk about the game doesn't help.

by the 5th or 6th week i was baffled at how many people were seriously engaging such obvious baiting

So, for instance, if someone says in the week 1 MNF thread "Well I need RG3 to put up 20 to aexure a win in fantasy... So lets go SKAAAANS." that'll be a temp ban? I think youre just talking about people going overboard and borderline trolling tho. If the former itll be near impossible to enforce. The latter would be pretty easy tho.

If you are in one of the FAQ leagues that would be a 1-day temp ban. If there is some movement to get rid of fantasy discussion overall it would be posts I see. Problem is that would lead to a lot of post reports from mad and childish posters so I don't think its a good idea. Especially with a low content thread.

But if I had my way and it wouldn't lead to butthurt, I'd ban all over for fantasy talk, hell yeah.

lol at temp-banning a reg for a throwaway fantasy comment. Don't get me wrong, fantasy discussion in general threads is bad, and I'm not planning on making any posts like rmt's sample. But it seems obvious you're more generally mad that SE is failing to live up to your perceived standards of discussion, and this vitriol towards fantasy discussion (which, imo, really wasn't a huge issue in SE last season) is displaced anger from that.

Those that are in the fantasy league have a thread for it in the main forum. I imagine that's the purpose of it. No one gives a **** about your team and if they somehow do, its likely those in the league.

As for the overall getting rid of discussion, like I said, its not going away.

How is that hard to understand?

I'm not mad at all. I'm in an incredibly good mood tonight seeing how well my team played tonight. I was just giving my opinion on the subject of fantasy football. I swear a lot and use words like "tools" despite not having any bit of anger.

Needle is the mod version of the guy at the bar yelling 'hold me back, hold me back!' The mods at the top of the power rankings would ban first, ask questions later, not complain about 'if I had their way'

And as far as my perceived standards its just that we did used to have a very solid base of discussion with people like Fink and JOA leading the charge. I'm pretty sure F60 has criticized me before for living to much in the past on this forum and the forum has evolved and grown a ton since then.

I have found other ways in which to further my knowledge of the sport and have made strives professionally with it as well. I also right occasionally for a very small blog but its nice just to put words down for some people that may appreciate it.

Wanting more out of something very well could be a bad thing. But it is what it is from me.

Trust me, I'm fairly sure the other mods in SE hate my modding due to be so hands off its probably painful. At this point I'm sure you guys can tell how much I hate the idea of handing "timeouts."

Needle, I think the gamesay threads benefit from the garbage but hilarious posts AND from your excellent football posts. Ain't nobody gotta make room for nobody, everyone can be happy.

Fantasy in the weekly discussion threads is pretty AIDS though.

Also SE self polices, if you babble about fantasy then SE isn't feelin' you anyway, so you're gonna get popped anyway.

Finally I love your football posts so don't stop making them and if you only make them on Skype, hit me with an invite.
