What wiper did is fine. He's just waking up and shocked when he gets the call, and wants some time to think about it. The woman's daughter just died, so she's probably insanely busy with phone calls and visits and has a ton of stress/sadness, so giving the option of an e-mail/text there for a written version of something you might say is thoughtful. She can always choose to call back at her own convenience. You should always be placating to the family in that spot, whatever makes their life easier at the moment. wiper was close to the victim, but pales in comparison to what that Mom is dealing with, so he is just playing along as he should regardless of whether he's comfortable doing it or not.

Regardless of what your take on that part of it is though, pinpointing that to talk about from his posts to try to pick on him is lol and makes you a complete doofus/bad poster/likely bad at many other things
