ok nutshot. Thats fair and I probably deserved that. Just a little pissed off about the situation. And yea wrt to ringers, i thought most leagues had a stipulation where you have to play a certain amount of games to be elgible for the tourney, guess not this one. Thanks for the replies guys, Im taking my dog to the park.

I payed 50 bucks to be on an all mens team where the season lasted 10 games plus a single elimination tourney at the end of reg season where all teams get in. Well, I underestimated how busy I would be during the summer and was forced to miss 4 of these games but our "manager" had a handful of guys who were able to fill in to the point where we never forfeited. Everybody has missed at least one game, and the subs didn't have to pay to play. I havent been great (havent swung a bat really in 10 years) but have still managed to basically go 2-4 every game but our entire team has hit like **** and we only won 2 games.

so the reg season ended last week and I popped out 3 times and got an infield single in that game but generally I could tell everybody was pretty ****ty about me dropping my shoulder everytime whatever. Nevertheless, I'm one of the best fielders but he has stuck me batting last every game which i think is bull**** considering nobody is tearing the cover off the ball and we all paid but I never said anything because I know i've been pretty terrible anyway...tourney starts tonight and i get a text from him saying that im out and usually when we've had 11 show up (u play 10) u still just let everybody bat but rotate who plays in the field. However, hes not gonna let me even bat and obv won't be playing in the field...and barring a blowout i probably wont get even get in. I know not everybody there has paid (hes got a couple of ringers). I told him its bull**** and am probably just not going to show up.

Basically, am I being a bitch? I just feel no loyalty to this team despite a few good friends being on the team, but once hes basically benching me even though we're grown ass adults and paid to be in the league I feel no need to even show up. Somebody convince me otherwise, seriously. I've actually lost a lot of respect for him to pull this ****.

cliffs: paid to be in softball league, was only able to make half the games. Tourney starts tonight and was told im being benched in favor of people who have not paid to be in the league because I have been one of the weakest spots in the lineup. Bull**** or no?

edit: I only told him its bull****, and he just responded with "ok". I havent told him i'm not showing up.
This is total BS fwiw.

I've had similar problems running bball teams, since often during the season people miss, so then I have to have friends (who don't pay) fill in, and then when the paid guys pop back, they *should* play as much as they want.. But it never quite works out that way.

No good solution.

+1 it's def a dick move...I'd try to get like half my money back if I could...principle and all...but at the end of the day it's probably not worth the hassle.

"competitive" softball people are the worst. i played LC in my day and was pretty damn good. well, we played sunday mornings (lol) and for some random game i showed up still drunk from night before. there was a fly ball that i thought was hit right to me and both me and the LF called for it and I/we dropped it. our pitcher yelled "NATE, THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!"

my brother was catching and he said the ump laughed and said "is this game 7 of the world series?'

oh, i see the LF in our golf league and if i'm playing with him and hit a bad shot he'll always say "unacceptable." lol.

so Vincent, I'd be pissed. but, not too pissed because you did miss half the season.

haha. Thats not bad, and would be allowed if they needed a player.

I dunno fellas, just as i've gotten older I get less and less tolerant of people showing lack of integrity. People take different paths through life and its great that through all that you can still maintain friendships with people you've known since middle school, but one thing I have come to known about myself is I should and will not waste time with these "friends" who at 29 and 30 years old show insecurity and lack of integrity. Pretty frustrating.

edit: and nate, yea id be completely understanding if everybody had paid and he just said welp, you're our worst player so your sitting this one out. At the minimum in this situation I think he should bat me last behind even the subs and tell me I can fill in in the field when someone wants. I could maybe respect that, because I don't take softball too seriously. If it was basketball on the other hand we'd have some problems.

edit again: damn. 5,000 posts and almost 8 years. Incredible.

I'd call the league and see what there rule is for players on the playoff roster. Like you said, most places have a minimum amount of games played in reg season to be allowed for playoffs. If they confirm this is there rule as well, go to the game and sit in the bleachers on the other team's side. Wait till the 2nd/3rd inning and then tell the opposing team manager to do a lineup check..LOL The put on your troll face as you leave.

Or just not go and eff that guy!

The more I think about it I don't think its all that clearcut. I think the manager is def handling it in a douchey way but you ditched almost half the regular season, that could have made things really difficult on the manager and its possible the ringer who filled in for you actually played more reg season games than you did if he covered for some other people on your team as well. At some point you skipping games becomes a bigger factor than you paying.

Need more info as to the nature of your missing games, whether you warned of it before the season, how much notice you gave on a weekly basis etc, in order to make a fair judgement imo.

well, in my leagues, we'd never ponied up our own money. we'd have a beer blast to pay for the league, and then at each game everyone would throw in a buck or two for the umps.

i'd probably think differently if i paid before the season and was then benched for someone who didn't.

i was a good fielder "for my league." we were the B league and yes, there was an A league. in my illustrious baseball/softball career i hit a whopping one dinger over the fence.

i was FAR from an all star, hehe.

I always gave at least a weeks notice and missed 4 of 10 games. He knew I wouldn't be there for 2 of them before the season started. 1 I decided a last second trip to florida which i still gave him a weeks notice and the other was confusion on his end telling me he had too many roster spots and I had a sprained ankle(ok i lied, i gave him a days notice on this one)

I've played sports and been friends with this guy for 20 years. He has pulled **** like this before as he is very cliquey and always wants to be deemed cool in front of the more popular kids. If he knows you're his friend thick and thick, he will risk pissing you off to get in better with somebody else. I'm not entirely surprised by his actions basically.

edit: and I know that these ringers (one is actually the little brother of the burke dude who hit the game winning homer for the astros against the cardinals in the nlds) havent played more games than I have.

Crushing slowpitch softballs is not that hard imo, your size is fine. 99% of bad players dont wait long enough and distribute their weight too early and only get like 20% of their potential power in a swing.
