yeah, well obviously the perception exists because certain TZ regs sprawl out into other threads with that kind junk. i guess people are unaware that they might not do that in TZ, because they don't go into TZ. so i guess people are working under the assumption that supposedly good posters don't just use the threads they don't care about to troll and generally be an asshat, and then post normally within TZ.

is it really that hard to not call someone names? you can't just explain why they're wrong, or if they're being obtuse, or are too stupid to get the point, then just ignore them? i mean this is part of the reason thremp had to go, because he was apparently incapable of playing nice with people, or at the very least disagreeing civilly.

Given the TZ cliqueness and solipsism it is fitting you think the problem is about the TZ, when it isn't. As several people including Triumph* have posted, the problem isn't with memetarding in the TZ, well it could be, but I don't care about what is going on in the TZ. The problem is when TZ regs start tarding up NFL/MLB/NHL/Draft threads with memetarding because they might need to provide analysis/insight instead of just citing APM or whatever the new TZ gospel is.

i just really want to see examples of this. i mean that in the most non trolly memetard way. if its so prevalent, it shouldnt be hard to link a couple. preferably from within this week or 2.

This is really the problem. I guess I misinterpreted Victor's post, but the problem is basically that a few particular posters feel free to memetard and crap on people's threads, and think they're being hilarious and getting people mad, when they're just being obnoxious and killing conversation.

It's pretty hilarious that a poster who memetards and posts intentionally stupid **** as often as you do is accusing anyone else of "ruining" anything.

One of these guys got himself purposely banned from the forum. He then came back on a new account almost solely to antagonize people who aren't part of his circle. Why is he still allowed to post?

is it considered a memetard if its applicable and the most concise way to phrase something?

im not gonna say it, for fear of reprisals, but i think you can guess what i am requesting here.

How about this? If you find a post that exemplifies an recurring problem with the forum, link/quote it in this thread so we can discuss it to see if it's a problem. That way we're not actually talking about what we remember or we thought we saw, we're discussing actual examples. That should make it easier to figure out if there actually is a problem.

I do largely think the "u mad" stuff has worn out it's welcome, especially when it's just used as a discussion ender. Next time I find something like that I'll point it out.

I think the problem lies in the certitude with which your present your stat-based opinions (and yes they still qualify as opinions) - Basketball is not solved to nearly the extent that baseball is. I suppose it's possible to argue that Fields > Amare, but coming to such a conclusion would make me first question my methodology a little (not reject it, just reexamine to see if there is a systemic bias in favor of or against certain types of players) and second cause me to think that such a conclusion is probably more an indictment of Amare than a startling revelation of the greatest of Fields.

If I'm new to thread, and thus not familiar with the particular mindset you approach this kind of question, I'm going to be a bit baffled and really not sure whether to take you seriously when a highly contrarian take such as Fields>Amare is combined with rather aggressive certainty.

I do think the memetarding peaked a while ago, I mean, people are still throwing flyingrat's name out there and he's been MIA for three weeks.

Victor,
The brief period when C-Vig posted in the NHL thread pre Thrashers implosion/lol Byfuglien contract.

Dudd,
I agree with that, but I think one reason the memetarding has declined is because February is such a slow sports month: pre March-Madness, nhl/nba playoffs, NFL draft, etc.

look the cruz of my rebuttal is that this stuff has run its course and dwindled out. bringing up examples from months ago supports my contention. imo (is this one allowed btw?)

I guess that's where we disagree, because I find him repetitive and obnoxious. Being creative is funny. Repeating the same **** over and over isn't, especially when you do it just to piss people off. I can deal with a burn if it's clever or witty, but yes, I get annoyed when people go out of their way to repeat annoying ****. I'm human. I get annoyed by mosquitoes, too.

Yeah bro I'm gonna spend my day searching your archives. Does it count if I find posts where you absurdly overrate someone and then vehemently defend your opinion?

Also, lol@u because JoA is way more measured and reasonable than I am, and if he noticed it, it's almost certainly there.

that's because TZ posters are only posting in TZ now that the NFL season is over. i'll agree that it has dwindled lately, just because i don't see very much of it.

i don't think the memetarding is the overall issue. i think there's a certain group of posters who consider it fun to take up an argument, support it, and have their poster friends support that argument as well, in order to 'get the haters mad'. i don't think they are doing it lately, so maybe it has gone away on its own. but it's something that needed looking into last month - why this is happening now is confusing. i agree the more words i see on this subject, the less important the issue becomes.
