I don't know, I think I'm pretty much the GOAT, but only about half of you agree. That's OK though.

Basically ya. The users ARE the forum. I agree that from my perspective, the forum has trended down a little bit in the last year or two, but:

a) that says more about how great it was then than how bad it is now,
and
b) that's not something that is going to be fixed by moderation regardless.

i guess a straight hitler:holocaust::victor:se memetarding analogy may fulfill the letter of godwin's law but not really the spirit imo

Its really just two different ways of looking at something. (A) depends on whether you view the previous standard as what the forum should be and what we should strive for or if you think it was at a standard above what could be expected to hold. (B) depends on what you believe the source of the problem is. If you view it as a lot of posters trying to have good discussion and a couple posters purposely dragging down the level of discussion then there is something to be done moderation wise. If you view it as a shift in forum mentality as a whole then there isn't anything to be done.

I defer to Tucker on this one.

When objectively good posters start to complain or leave because it's not worth wading through all the garbage to find content, then it's gone too far. Pretty sure this has already happened with a few posters.

Maybe there is the hope that these once decent posters who have become lame parodies of themselves will stop sucking. But I've given up hope and it seems in some cases the forum would certainly be improved in their (forced) absence. So there will be carnage soon.

I'll probably start a thread on this because it's gotten annoying as hell.
ALL HAIL TUQ!!!

TUQ 4 MOD!!!

Do you see why people might find it frusturating to post content if the only feedback they get is others hypothesizing on their own level of madness?

this is partly true, but it doesn't recognize the role that modding had in shaping the forum of one or two years ago. imo, it's more than you think.

i await victor's forum implosion, i give it an o/u of 6 months

You mean when Tuq was running the show with the clarknasty bill of rights as the template? Yeah, the forum was ****ing awesome then, and no it won't be that awesome again.

That doesn't mean that wrongs can't be righted and all of that, just that the good ol days are just that, the good ol days.

If you post good content, you'll get good feedback. It's not hard to ignore the peanut gallery.

This is a ClarkMyth. Then, as now, the quality of the forum is like 99.9% driven by the quality of the regular posters.

could i see the secret stats on this? also, when do you ever venture outside your box? modding removes or prunes unwanted elements that can totally ruin threads/discussion. bad posters can/should be ignored but they are usually not. unmoderated forums generally have a terrible signal: noise ratio unless there is a high barrier to entry.

yes, ultimately the regular posters will determine how good a forum is, i won't dispute that. moderation is a key to making sure that regular posters stay.

I'm not crying any tears for anyone who left a discussion because it wasn't modded enough.

The mistake Clark/tuq make when they put on the rosy mod-glasses is that they mistake their modding as their value, when in fact they were just really good posters.

All said, Assani by himself has probably contributed more to this forum (and other 2+2 forums) than every non-maintenance modding action combined in the history of the internet.

kbfc really has his finger on the pulse of the forum, a modship on the horizon you say?

some day I want to see 60 Minutes do a segment "Inside the Victor organization". There's just no way one human being can toss off so many random thoughts AND get them onto the internet. It just has to be a team operation.

That's because the "regular posters" group has changed. The regulars who were good back then are still good now. (ok, so Epipen has fallen off a cliff, but he's the exception) They just don't represent as high a % of the content, because, well, life happens, and things change.
