I love how h3n.ry in that fighting thread thinks it's totally normal to have had situations where groups of dudes are so eager to fight you that they'll wait long periods of time in between meetings to fight and come at you on sight or even wait by your car outside a bar for god knows how long just to beat you down. He views it as just a natural consequence of going out all the time and that he, of course, had no part in instigating it. Dude will tip $20 on one drink to avoid an awkward look from a bartender but apparently has a super low threshold before letting others make him feel like a pussy, so obv you gotta throw down.

IME people who tell stories like that are lying. The vast majority of the time the fight happens right there or it doesn't at all 90%+ of the time. If it doesn't happen right away it's just a bunch of **** you bro, no **** you bro, no **** YOU bro idiocy with a million people in between.

This is a man that has spent 70% of his adult life inside of a strip club.

He's right that if you go out enough and to the right bars you're bound to encounter people who want to fight for no reason. But yeah, his philosophy on how to handle it is completely bizarre given his life philosophy.

Well of course you'll meet dickheads, I go out all the time, but getting to the point where they're actively waiting by your car or ready to beat you on sight after months have passed or whatever means you're definitely doing something wrong. His threshold for feeling like a pussy is either really low or he's doing something to antagonize people.

Well yeah, that's lol. That happens to him because he's a dick.

Alobar is equally as tilting in that thread with his whole "I can't imagine anyone would ever try to fight you at a bar unless you're as equally big a douchebag as that guy is"

Henry is right that from ages 18-28, if you do go to bars/clubs frequently, you'll undoubtedly have a handful of instances where you are presented with an option or threat of a fight. It's just about how you handle it and not being a dumbass who tries to fight people in places of business/where cops are.

Following the simple advice of "Don't ever fight and avoid provoking fights unless you have absolutely no choice" is a pretty sound piece of advice for anyone entering their 20s.

My friends more prone to fighting or starting **** have had many more problems in life and problems with the law than those who don't. In fact, I'd say more than half of the times I've heard of a friend getting arrested or in any kind of trouble has been because of bar fighting.

I feel like **** like that happens more at clubs though. Much easier to throw down if someone accidentally bump into you and then you can't even hear if they're apologizing or talking ****, so better beat dat ass just to be safe.

Hmm...no invite for me, which I assume means someone else remembers my performance in the school shooting thread.

So the morning session with wife went pretty well. We've been incorporating timed repetitive restraint exercises for her affected side recently, and it was pretty handy to be able to show her that she's picked up right where she left off and in some cases improved over the layoff. Jesus, you really cannot put a ****ing price on confidence!

In fact she wants me to initiate phase 2 of this program, which involves rigging the equipments with various sensors and settings to record her $tats so she can do it on her own and also monitor her progress. "Maybe that way you'll have some time for pokering and betting on sports." she said

Unfortunately, I have no practical idea of how to do this kind of rigging. I gather some things would be touch activated (including some iPad apps and some actual-matter objects) and some could use video cameras and high-contrast objects to detect completion, but not sure how to actually get that into a computer. Do not want her to have to count and write things down (i.e. what I am doing now) as that would involve distraction and using the wrong hand, respectively. This equipment/program would essentially mimic a current Taub Therapy Clinical Trial we are trying to get her into, absent a trained therapist on facetime with access and control of equipment settings.

Any suggestions for who to ask about making a setup like this? Maybe 2+2 programming forum guys?

I understand the difference. I just don't see why it is a big deal or even worth complaining about. If it is so egregious then it will either self correct via market forces or someone will lose an election over it and then it will self correct via market forces.

Additionally, anyone in SF who has a problem with it is always welcome to try to take advantage of the market inefficiency and become a conductor which is something that should not be relevant, but if the pay is so outrageous and the job so easy then plenty of people would find it worth their while to change careers.

Yeah Holliday it can't hurt to try over there. I mean setting up cameras and importing it into a computer to tabulate results is easy, but if you want it automatically it's going to take a programmer.

the government protection of unions is precisely the reason people cant change their careers to become a conductor

maybe I misunderstand unions, but conductors start somewhere and aren't just born into the front car of the train pulling levers. Other people have every right to try their hand at careers they choose, but most proactively avoid union labor and also avoid politics.

If a smart and enterprising person really wanted the luxury lifestyle of conducting metro transit then I am sure they could work their way into it. People who want the rules governing unions to change should either elect politicians who will change them or run for office and get to the point where they can change the laws themselves (a third alternative would be to become a multibillionaire and throw some money and power around).

Personally, I care about neither so I continue my life as it is. However, if its a social injustice then people will be fighting it and it won't last too much longer. If the injustice is small then why even mention it?

yep

I haven't been in a bar fight ever, and don't plan on it. Also, I can't think of a situation where I wouldn't physically remove myself because of "pride" or something stupid like that. Even if someone started pushing me it just isn't worth it.
