hipsters irritate me because of their fake/no-wait-real/fake culture. my brother was hanging out with me in williamsburg once and this group of hipsters sat down next to us and started having this obnoxious loud conversation that seemed to be almost a performance. one asked 'so what do you think the meaning of love is'. when we left he was like 'man i never got why people hate hipsters so much, but now i understand'.

i agree with iversonian that their culture agrees with me much more than most and that there's a lot of people i dislike to have around more - i find them more irritating than hateable.

i feel like hipsters try too hard to be ahead of the curve and that's what makes them annoying. it's like they're wannabe sharps or something when really they are only conforming to a diff style than the average american.

maybe i'm wrong but that's my highly uneducated impression.

Good read, T36. Even if it were the only reason-- which it obv isn't-- it would be enough for me. To clarify, was referring to the coffee shop scene in his show and the stand-up bit on similar subject matter.

Lots of hipster-types in law school. Many have redeeming qualities in spades not unlike what iversonian describes. Some hate corporate personhood, corporations, people. Several of them are into sports heavily; these tend to be the most self-aware.

the best thing about hipsters is they generally don't frequent anywhere that I would want to go.

Anyone bitching about turning 30 is pretty much ****ed and headed for prozac at 40. 30 is much much easier. You can still pull 21 year old tail at 30. At 40, you're the age of that chick's friends' fathers and maybe hers too. Also, at 40 your clubbing life is over sans sports bars. If I walk into a night club now, no matter the time, people assume I'm there to drop off kegs or change out light bulbs in the toilet.

Enjoy your 30s, it's the last remotely youthful decade you will see.

UK hipsters.

NSFW language

Spoiler:

/hipster

Quite a decent sample size of and on that video to accurately conclude that 1.89% of people are hipsters.

Rejecting the style of the average American is a good look. The problem is that their naturally bad taste manifests itself in the poor eclectic choices they make.

Nonconformity done wrong tends to be a worse look than just defaulting to the norm.

MLB rules quiz. I scored 2/10, apparently I was a turrible umpire back in the day.

What irks me most about hipsters is that their intense desire to stand out as an individual precludes them from enjoying being part of any communal exercise.

They like things not based on how good/bad they are, but on how popular/unpopular they are. As soon as something becomes popular, and therefore has a larger community, then hipsters are unable to enjoy it to the extent they used to, so they move on and declare it "too mainstream and uncool".

By saying that "Oh yeah man, I remember when I saw the Black Keys at this little 300 person venue in Williamsburg, you know, before they got too popular" they are simultaneously saying that they are cooler than you and they are diminishing your experience of watching the Black Keys, because it will never be as cool as their experience of watching the Black Keys, which makes them kind of dicks.

Hipsters hate the Black Keys for being overhyped paint-by-numbers blues-rock afaik

Anyways, drawing conclusions about "hipsters" as a group is ridiculous. The phrase encompasses so much these days. There are the outlier types, but, for the most part, the people in Zimmer's post are more theoretical straw men than some actual, prevalent group.

SE's Zimmer is running a Golf Hole Draft in the golf sub-forum. We're trying to get a few more worthy drafters. If Clark or any of the other SE regs who enjoy golf see this, please sign up in the thread over there. Will be trying to start on Wednesday!

The idea is to draft a back 9. Par between 35-37, with no fewer than two par 3s and two par 5s. At the end, you list the order of your holes and explain why you chose the order.

See ya on the felt! - D. "T-box" Lee

Dickhead is therefore more appropriate. You're either a dickhead or you're not. No outliers.
