I like Pearl Jam a lot, but it's a real shame how many years were wasted on every single alt-rock lead singer trying to imitate that voice.

An even more underrated band than Pearl Jam is Soundgarden.

I got the impression they were trying for a more nu metal sound on St.Anger with the down tuned guitars and lack of solos. That album was released around 2002 or something when Nu metal was pretty big iirc.

Achtung Baby is an great album. Very underappreciated. Obv War and Joshua are sick too. Easy to hate on the "sellout" band, I get it but their total body of work definitely doesn't suck, even if you don't like their last few pop-ish albums.
