Life lessons as I approach 30:

1. Good god marry the right girl. If you do everything else wrong get this one right. Nothing else comes remotely close in terms of importance. Marrying the wrong person can literally **** up the rest of your life. Got this one right.

2. Think seriously about what you want out of life and map out a plan to get it. Don't do anything because it is what others expect of you.

3. Don't burn bridges. This is LDO for lots of people, but you absolutely never know where you will be in 5 or 10 or 20 years and who will be in a position to make or break you. Basically, just make people like you and resist the urge to be an ******* when people upset you.

4. Tell the people that matter to you that they matter to you. It's awkward, but just ****ing do it.

Well, I doubt RAIDS will be in any position to have any impact on Riverman's life. To be fair.

in all seriousness, thats a pretty good post by riverman. A good time to listen to old people is when they say "i wish i did x differently when I was younger" because its almost always genuine and sincere advice.

I'm not coming at you about it, you like what you like. There's no right answer. That said, you seemed to HATE NYE. That seemed a little strong without a NYE related back story.

how to know if a college major is worthless:
If mutivariable calculus (aka Calc 3) is not one of the major requirements, it's worthless.

T/F?

at my college the people who were requires to learn calc 3 were:
engi, comp sci, physics, and chem majors

wait, nvm, biology majors didn't need it. It's a hard science and you can become a doctor with a biology major.

obviously the majors in bold are getting PAID. thankfully i'm a mech eng guy. but there must be other majors that are worthwhile right? or do they fall into the "but you also have to know someone" category?

26 life lessons I learned before I turn 26:

1. put your friends and family first when you're young; they'll understand when you need to focus on other things if you've always been there for them
2. figure out what you want to do with your life by the time you're 21-23
3. spend the next few years figuring out the best way to get there and more importantly the ways that won't work
4. put your career and professional relationships first once you enter the professional world
5. always look a few years ahead and plan for the future; important changes take time and energy
6. always plan for the worst case scenario and don't get overjoyed when the best case is what actually plays out
7. maintain important relationships and stay in touch with those who have lent you a helping hand along the way
8. save money
9. spend money for experiences rather than things
10. spend money on your friends and family instead of yourself; it will always be worth it
11. trust your friend's advice and judgment
12. always think for yourself
13. its ok to date a girl your friends don't like, but never ok to date a girl who doesn't like your friends
14. waste time efficiently
15. pay attention to how people treat hourly wage type employees; dissociate with those who treat them poorly
16. find a balance between eating what you like and eating what you should
17. don't routinely sacrifice a good night's sleep for anything
18. argue on an intellectual level often
19. refrain from arguments on an emotional level
20. don't make threats; even when you can make good they are rarely the best course of action
21. say please and thank you; hold the door for people
22. work harder than those around you, but not as hard as you can so that there is something left in the tank when it is actually required
23. most of what you have to say is not important; learn to bite your tongue and listen in group settings
24. be prompt
25. smile and laugh
26. don't get offended

I've also thought of Geology, which is a major with underrated earning potential. Oil and mining companies need em. But you must live wherever the mine/drilling is, which usually sucks.
