Plan for 2 drinks per guest for the first hour and 1 drink per guest for each hour after that. Obviously some people will drink a lot more and some a lot less, but that rule of thumb worked pretty well for us. The ratios of wine, beer, and spirits depends on the bride and groom, and what they think people will drink. Even split is not a bad guess. I have a Lounge thread on cheap booze to look at for stuff that's cheap but that still tastes good.

We got service family style. It's less common of an option, but it means you can eat as much as you want, and you don't have to wait in line.

The whole concept of the registry just seems weird to me. I know it makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but I just feel uncomfortable going out to pick things we want people to buy us. (so we had no registry for the wedding, but my wife had it for her baby shower).
It's a favor to your friends and family to make shopping for you easier, and it helps you avoid getting ****ty stuff you don't want.
