Yea, it sucks. He's an easy guy to root for too. Like a Barkley, but more likeable and probably more valuable to his team. (it's arguable)

wow if a perennial All-Star/Hall Of Famer had this track record in NBA he'd get ridiculed constantly. Even Barkley made a NBA Finals

hes not my favorite player, but ya, thorntons put up relatively great playoff stats. you can only affect the game so much when top players on forward usually play 20 mins or 1/3 of a game. its different from the nba which is more impacted by stars who can play a full game. his team perpetually lets him down, whether its through injuries of bad play. This year unfortunately the refs made a lot of consensus bad calls. There is also has much more variance in hockey. Its not like the nba where the heat open up at around 50% to title. Only the biggest of morons would label thornton with a wil or choke moniker. I dont blame most people though because they just dont know hockey. Dont have time to respond to more disingenuous or idiotic trolling tho, work calls.

edit: anyone agreeing with cvig can feel free to expose their similar, yet laughable ignorance. its not my problem.

i assume every hockey series is 50-50

went 7-6 in first round
2-5 second round
0-2 third round

so just two series under expectation

Chris Webber is probably the answer to that

eh Webber only had 10 playoff appearances and i'm not sure he was as good at NBA regular seasons as Thornton was at NHL regular seasons

seed means nothing, all teams are about the same thats why 8s win all the time

expectation is like 1.5 appearances in finals so he has a WIL of .75 rangz

gotta be lots of players with higher WIL than that.

dan marino made 10 playoffs. since he got byes and football teams are better than each other and there were only 10 or 12 playoff teams I put his expectation at 1.9 lombardi trophys giving him a WIL of 1.9 rangz

based on this math even he had a rang he would still have more WIL than thornton

that's just not fair to hockey players though- they can want it as little as humanly possible and never receive due recognition.

like i said, lol nba - dkgo is right, seed isn't meaningless in the nhl, but 7s are over .500 against 2s over a long stretch, it's not like the nba where 8 seeds always lose

the nhl playoffs are an enormous variance fest and even with the fact that there's been a different stanley cup winner since 2003, there has to be a joe thornton that exists
