View: the NFL MVP and Heisman awards are total BS because its so damn rare that a defensive player gets any love. I'm not gonna start a thread on it but I sure believe it.

not really.

importance of offense is equal to importance of defense.

and on offense the importance of QB and to a lesser extent HB are much greater than WRs, TEs, and the O-line.

on defense the importance of the positions are more or less equal (MLB is only marginally more important than FS), so it's hard for non-QB players to compete.

could a defensive player ever have the same impact on his team's defensive ability as, say, Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers can have on their teams offensive ability?

No wai

lol running backs

ok so then only QBs should ever win the award, right?

so which is more important, defense or offense?

last 2 non-qbs were Shaun Alexander and LaDainian Tomlinson

what kind of statistics would it take to put a defensive player on that level to surpass the importance of QBs?

15 ints? 20 sacks?

Could a offensive lineman ever feasibly be MVP?

I think it would have to be a D-lineman who was simply unstoppable against both the run and pass. So tons of penetration every single play for TFLs and sacks.

Gut feel is that its just incredibly biased if only 2 defensive players have ever won MVP

the actual most valuable player in the league is currently always going to be a qb unless **** changes drastically.

well ok i guess you got that part right too.

your positional rankings are lolbad though. rb over wr and especially ol is awful. and no all the defensive positions are not equal.

should hte heisman go QB every year too then?

Depends on what criteria you are using obviously. I don't think there's a real argument for sticking with a completely value based system.

It's just a lot easier for an offensive player to stand out consistently throughout a season than a defensive player.

if suh didnt even come close then a solely defensive player is not going to win the heisman

Orlando Pace was a finalist and finished 4th in the 1996 Heisman voting as an OT. Probably about as much (mainstream) recognition of being valuable as an OL will ever get.

Didn't Walter Jones win something important one year?

Edit: Nevermind, he was #1 on a Sporting News list of 100 best players in the NFL.

Still, he was really good.
