Watches and warnings are pretty standard; probably over-used by the weather service IMO. A watch simply says tornados *can* form, a warning says that they're *likely* to form.
Other than that it might be 10, 15 minutes from when the sirens go off. If the sirens go off. If you're near a siren. And if you're unable to hear a warning siren or a radio/TV report, it's pretty much look outside, see the tornado, yell curse words and run to whatever shelter you happen to have.
