Also, I've meet more 2+2ers than most. Lots of reasons why and whatnot, but on the whole I've enjoyed most of them. There's only 1 guy I really didn't like, and he was a fringier 2+2er.

The guys I've met up w/ with whom I've interacted a lot, I enjoy spending time with them.

there is like 0 ****ing chance it takes 50 years. more likely that flying cars are common in 50 years than that driverless cars aren't common.

ya. mebbe it would force a societal change to make it easier to get home. public transport is awful in 99% of areas. giving ppl a viable option would do far moar to reduce drunk driving than anything else.

Mebbe I should organize a Boston 2+2 meet up. Only thing though is it's almost Vegas Summer Time. (For everyone else, not me this year...)

no the street view team cars aren't driverless. they're testing driverless cars in california and nevada but it's separate from street view.

the problem isn't technology.

I just picked a big round number. Perhaps I picked one that's too big. The technology is here now basically. I'm talking full adoption of the tech, as I said in my post.

20-25 is a more reasonable number.

liability doesnt seem that difficult to deal with. just assign it somewhere and let Ronald Coase do his thing.

also the hysteria when the computers kill someone will not be that hard to deal with when you have statistics showing how many fewer people are dying in traffic in general. people are stupid, but not that stupid.

less than 15 years for driverless cars to be a major thing imo.

most people don't give a **** about statistics. all they need to hear is a few anecdotes about google's death machines and they'll never get in a driverless car.

I doubt it. People will simply view it as a cheap (eventually) chauffeur that doesn't take up a seat and never gets sick or takes days off or loses focus on the road.

I've met at least 50 2p2ers and only maybe half a dozen were really weird people. soah was easily the weirdest of any of the ones I met.

It's been said, but this is like absurdly pessimistic. People are gonna notice if drunk driving deaths are cut in half. It's a huge public policy issue. And, even if you don't think they will (they will), the flip side of the coin is that you're going to have drunk people choosing to manually operate their driverless cars, then killing people. So there are some anecdotes too.

lol, no. can't tell if this is BAIDS leveling but the critical part about a car is that it gets you there faster than a horse. if a driverless car takes the same time (and i don't see why it wouldn't), it offers no immediate advantage to the non-driverless car.

people are really stupid

they are conditioned to accept "human error" as a part of life. a wreck killing someone because someone sucks at driving is not seen as close to as bad as a wreck killing someone because a computer did something wrong and "just think, a human could have recognized the situation and prevented it"

Most of my 2p2 meetups were just at live MTTs like WSOP, Turning Stone, or PCA.

Have met charder, AGame, and redirkulous through poker stuff.

Met wiper once, ikes a few times, and CDL last month at the final four. Haven't met most of the Detroit crew.
