"I saw this great biography..." seems like 99% of the time how the conversation would start.
Isn't biography ambiguous with respect to written versus filmed? It's usually used for written. If someone said "I saw a biography" one might think this happened at a bookstore or library and a book was seen.

Speaking of which, with all this talk of Houston I wonder how many people itt don't realize that people from NYC pronounce that street a completely different way than the city. No doubt they will insist their way is "correct". I didn't know this until about 10-15 years ago.
Houston Street is named after William Houstoun, not Sam Houston (for whom Houston, TX is named). I assume William pronounced it how stun.

Stabler hasn't been on it for a few years, so maybe you could give it another shot. I like the original series the best, followed by SVU. Criminal Intent sucked by comparison, but I still watched quite a bit of it. Couldn't get into it as much as the others.

Claire Kincaid was the best ADA imo. Carmichael was good as well.

One of the best things about Law & Order is the immense number of episodes. Even if you watched all episodes on a loop, by the end you would forget exactly what happened in the first episodes. The rewatchability factor is very high. Add in that you do not need to see the prior episodes in order to understand the current episode, and you have the formula for reruns being played to infinity. TNT seems to be trying to accomplish this...weekend nights they have a huge block of them.

Here's every show:

-Everyone discusses things and everyone appears to have an IQ of 180 and never stumbles over their words when speaking in complicated legalese.
- Introduce a shady suspect who MUST HAVE DONE IT I MEAN LOOK AT HIM HE DOESN'T EVEN SMILE
- Nope, he didn't do it.
- Introduce another suspect. No way she did it. She looks like the all-American girl!
- Introduce another suspect who kinda could go either way.
- More 180 IQed dialogue between the crime-fighters.
- Suspect 3 seems to be cleared.
- Standstill. No way suspect 2 actually did it. We gotta keep this case from getting cold! Keep looking! But keep suspect 2 around.
- More well-written dialogue that people in the industry probably crack up at.
- BAM. At the 53 minute mark of the hour long episode a breakthrough! Turns out suspect 2 DID IT! Sam Waterston flies in on a hang-glider in his crime-fighter suit and throws cuffs on her. Roll credits.

My wife loves watching these things. Forensic science shows like Bones and stuff. I don't get it. If I did I'd probably rock the HD TV by now.

Pretty much watch sports, Jeopardy!, and Celebrity Apprentice and that's about it right now. Used to watch Idol because Simon was awesome and logical. No way I'd watch that steaming pile now.
I actually would not lump any of the Law & Order iterations in with this type of show.

Original L&O would usually be focused on courtroom back & forth so that verdict was the suspense even though we knew who did it.

SVU was usually a smaller crime that led to a network of sex offenders or bigwig who'd pulled a coverup, with the earlier criminals flipping to testify against them along with victims. Multiple suspects may have been involved, but "which one was in charge" was the question.

Criminal Intent Goran always knew exactly who had done it (by smell) and most of the ep was him smoking him out like Columbo.

I actually like CI ever since I saw the ep with an obvious Stu Unger character. At one point he's hiding out away from NY or AC, so they find him at a bingo parlour trash talking geriatrics; "BINGO, mother****er! You got nothing lady, you got nothing! GTFO lady!"

i think SVU is replacement level television. if you are measuring VORTV then it is the baseline. always on and if you have the need to watch something it will get the job done for an hour. usually you keep it on while looking to see if there is something better, and if there isnt just finish the episode then search again at the next hour.

Taking my son to the Toronto Metro Zoo for the first time today. Seems like a good sunny day. I'm kindve looking forward to it myself; both myself and my wife haven't been to any zoo since we were about 8 years old. I hope this gon be fun.

I'm watching a guy that I paid move a light in my dining room up to a more agreeable height. Pretty much sure watching handymen operate in your own home is the purest form of emasculation.

These can be awkward times. I end up doing one of three things here:
1. Offer him a beer
2. Offer to help him
3. Walk out of the room and do other stuff

I had an insane dream last night. Basically it was a movie directed by Stanley Kubrick, but I was a part of it and playing along. There was a humongous spaceship with millions of people inside. I don't really remember the details, but some **** got screwed up and people started dying. I'm not sure if I was the protagonist or a bystander, but there was an adventure through the spaceship to solve the problem.

The plot twist at the end was that the ship was actually a brain and every person on the ship was a memory or a representation of a memory. The reason people started dying was because of some cognitive degeneration.

Someone psychoanalyze me plz

To elaborate:

Hippos are pretty undervisited in zoos due to the fact they just like to hang out in the water and lack a big horn, tusks, etc. Many people skip the hippos.

Hippos cost a lot to keep. Zoos will likely drop hippos in the not-too-distant future.

Hippos are pretty likely to go extinct in the wild for similar reasons--also they kill people.

It's quite likely they go full extinct due to the combination of these factors.

But YOUR KID will have a clear memory of having seen hippos at his first zoo trip with his parents, all alone with just him and the hippos, which was totally *kid* awesome, before he realized how much cooler the elephants and rhinos were. Seems like a pretty cool parental thing to do is all.

It'd be kinda like the time my dad took me to a manatee barbeque, only without the years-later headshaking and nausea. FWIW, I'll definitely never forget it.
