well there are like 10 million people in the houston metro area

there are like 2 million in detroit, half of whom live really far away from the ball park and a huge chunk of whom are in desperate poverty

the real question is how baseball economics support such an insane number of lol contracts, i seriously don't get it

I probably should get one way more often than I do, but I probably average 2 months between haircuts

Jason Richardson's child tho
Every 2-3 months before I started buzz-cutting myself short. An expensive one lasts, or it should.

25 man rosters and mlb takes in almost as much revenue as the nfl because they play 10 times as many games. plus players are paid practically nothing for their first 3 seasons and then still well under market for their next 3.

also yeah tv contracts help but there's a reason those tv contracts are so valuable.

the Tigers could raise ticket prices 10% and still crush the Astros in attendance. For some reason, a lot of teams (in all sports) refuse to lower ticket prices despite very low demand.

pretty sure winning is much more important for attendance than small variations in ticket prices anyway. i doubt the astros would see a significant increase in attendance even if they lowered prices.

unsurprisingly houston was doing much better in attendance than detroit from 2001-2006 and detroit has been doing much better since.

I think winning vs price is different for different markets. Both will obviously help and it shouldn't come to an either/or. Put a Jags/Marlins/other FLA sports team joke in here if you must.

I don't disagree, obviously. Winning is always going to bring in more money, but lowering ticket prices when you're not good is still almost surely going to bring in more people and raise more revenue. And teams really don't seem to do it.

i ninja edited in "small variations" because obv if you charge $1 for all tickets you will have insane attendance and if you charge $10000 you will draw no one but for 10% price differences i don't think it matters that much.

Thats what I'm wondering. Most weekend series in Detroit its difficult to find two seats together because of sell outs. The Astros currently have thousands of seats available for much much more than the price of a ticket in Detroit.

sports teams are bad at lots of things but I'd guess setting ticket prices to maximize revenue is one thing they are actually pretty decent at.

I am not very price sensitive at all for baseball or nfl games. If either doubled or halved prices I wouldn't go to any fewer or more games. I would be more sensitive to nba prices though.

I know at least one barbershop in POR that has Playboys and will give you a comp PBR while you wait. I just got a haircut at a different place the other day for $15, gave them $20. I admit I have no idea how their take-home pay is figured out so I don't know if that is generous, standard or stingy.

RE: tipping Barber

Would you tip any different if the owner (only one barber works in there and it's him) is the one cutting your hair?

I imagine the bad publicity from raising prices when you get good again way outweighs any gains during the lean times. Hence why teams don't drop prices but will do plenty of buy 1 get 1 promotions and other stuff of that nature rather than decrease the face value of a ticket
