I have a Panasonic Plasma (smart TV) in my basement, aka the man cave. And an LED upstairs.

Plasma is best bang for buck IMO, and I better to watch sports on IMO. But really only if you plan to place it in a room with limited or no windows. (this is because the glare off a plasma is much greater than the other two options).

As for Hz, do not get anything less than 120. Huge difference. If you have to choose between smart tv and 120 hz, always opt for te 120 hz.

You're correct about the 30 fps for US TV (movies are traditionally shot at 24 fps).

First, the reason we need 60hz instead of 30hz is that a lot of television is broadcast interlaced, meaning that only half of the lines of resolution are shown each clock tick. So, lines 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc. are shown for 1/60 of a second then lines 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. are shown for 1/60 of a second.

For televisions refresh rates above 60hz, a process called Motion Interpolation is used. Basically the TV guesses at what an in-between frame would look like. So for example at 120hz:

First 1/120th of a second: Frame 1 (actual), odd lines
Second 1/120th of a second: Frame 1 (actual), even lines
Third 1/120th of a second: Frame 1.5 (guess), odd lines
Fourth 1/120th of a second: Frame 1.5 (guess), even lines
Fifth 1/120th of a second Frame 2 (actual), odd lines
Sixth 1/120th of a second Frame 2 (actual), even lines
and so on

The action flow is incredible. 120 is great, too. I read the brain refreshes around 60Hz, so really anything greater than that cuts down on the perception of ghosting.

Here's a good article I read when I was researching: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7...-refresh-rate/
That is a good article, and links to a lot of other really good articles. I've always felt that watching movies on the new TVs just looked "fake", like I am watching actors acting, but never could articulate why. Those articles do a great job of explaining the technology/psychology behind that feeling.

With the higher refresh rates, it's all the more crucial to optimize the callibration from home. The backlighting and brightness in stores are for vibrant looks under those lights.

I just search avsforums with "[model number] callibration" in the search bar. The one we got was fairly new, so I Googled that, but the avs guys are serious pros. Callibration can completely change the quality of the TV for your particular room. I'm really bad at that stuff, but those guys give a lot of for-dummies knowledge to give yourself the right tuning.

Interesting - this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

it's actually anti-persirant, it clogs your sweat glandes. Deoderant allows the sweat but kills the odor. buy regular deodorant.

nah this probably aint it. plenty of people use anti-perspirant and don't have that issue.

Probably just allergic/sensitive to the specific brand he's using.

I sweat like a bastard and being in Houston doesn't help. A few years ago I shaved half my armpit hair and had good results. Trimmed the half that I kept. I didn't want to shave it all and look like a freak when I raised my arms so I left the half that is above the crease and shaved the half below the crease.

this has got me thinking man my armpits itch too. i use really expensive donna karan anti perspirant and i thought it was good because it does not irritate my skin. no rash, no redness. but damn i think it is so good that my sweat glands are clogged or something. i run a lot and u know sweat from stress i guess like everyone but my armpits are dry all the time. but in the shower if i put hot water underneath my arms it feels like so soothing like there is something serious going on under the skin. and it does itch a little bit not too bad but its weird feeling. i am going to switch to just deodorant and shave all the hair. but i dont want too perfumed stuff since that gives me a headache. but it needs to work too...hmm what to do.

well i got a beard trimmer for my birthday and i used it a little under the arms but didnt really get into it just chopped it down a little bit. but i think clogged sweat glands is what i have and the sweat might be going to my brain or something instead of out the pitts i dunno. so i think i will go for it.

I was once young like you guys and also lol'd at the idea of shaving my pits.

But one summer I got fed up and like I said... shaved HALF of (each of) them and it was elite. Reminds me I need to do that again.

There was still enough hair left that when I raised my arms nobody would really notice.
