Started renting a house in February. Had to pay ~4.4k to move in since I couldn't show them weekly pay stubs, but it lowered the rent to 1k/mo.

House is decent, I have a huge room and the basement is finished with a wet bar, nice sized yard with a deck in the back for the kids, etc.

What sucks is basically everything that I couldn't check by walking through it turned out to be messed up in someway. The washer does NOT work correctly. It spins, but all the clothes are left dripping wet, so I have been ringing them out by hand and having to dry clothes 2-3 times, it's so ****ing annoying. We told the company we rent from, who in turn told the home owner. He came out about 3 weeks ago, finally, and said he knew the washer was about to go and he would start looking online for us one immediately. He told us he would be over during the "morning" about 10 days ago to install a new washer. He never showed up.

Along with that, the microwave doesn't work, dish washer works but leaks a bunch, along with some other small stuff that I can't recall right now in my tired state.

My rent is due in 2 days. Do I just tell the company I won't pay another payment until I have a functioning washer? There are a ton of dirty clothes piling up, due to it taking ~3hrs to complete 1 load, not to mention im sure running the dryer so much boosts our DTE bill.
Unless your state is super landlord friendly or something, it is 100% your landlords responsibility to get this stuff taken care of within a reasonable time frame after being notified of the problem. Depending on your state and your lease you probably have a few options including breaking the lease or getting the repairs done yourself and deducting them from your rent.

I am not too concerned about potentially worsening my credit, or whatever might be the downside of telling them to **** off. I've been without a functioning washer for 2 months now, it's kind of absurd.

When the dude came over to look at the washer he pointed out how all of the other **** that was wrong were quick little fixes, while fixing nothing lol.

I understand the concept of wanting to get the maximum run out of appliances when you're renting a house, I mean you're trying to make money, so renting out a house where you know the washer doesn't work is chill, until they ask you for one that works. Then I feel you should provide them with one.
If you are too lazy to read your own ****ing lease how do you expect us to help you??

We've called the company like 6 times requesting a resolution starting at the beginning of March.
Stop calling and start emailing imo. Much easier to document. You aren't going to get money back for going without it but being able to document the time you've been without it will give you grounds for other options such as breaking your lease if they continue to refuse to fix it.

Decided I am going to just pay rent this month. Next month will be a no brain decision if a functioning washer isn't in place.

Man, when I was 20 and at the peak of my laziness, I still didn't live like some of you. I may have flushed kitty litter down a toilet, but I'd never live without dishes, dishwasher, or a washer/dryer unit.

There's a big thunderstorm going through here right now and one of the news anchors is sitting at her computer compiling updates from people sending in information. Her background is literally just a tiled picture of her head shot.

You have never lived in a place that isn't dirt cheap.

Not quite sure I understand this. Is it because the same place where you live would cost 3X as much? Please explain.

I probably appreciate my dishwasher more than my tv after not having one for quite a few years. Hand-washing is awful.

Well, I can't stand shopping, cooking, nor cleaning, and the stuff that other people make for me is going to be better than what I would make for myself. Like most things, to each his own, I'm perfectly happy with a permanently clean stove and a refrigerator full of non-perishables.

It seems that I haven't ever dated a woman that liked to cook either. Some were OK at it but most just did it occasionally, almost to prove to themselves that they could.

I do dishes daily too. Put them in a dishwasher and it does the work.

Also, having lots of dishes is nice when yanno, family and friends come over

i think every cabinet in my kitchen is full with all kinds of equipment, spices, flour/sugar, glasses/dishes, parts for kitchen stuff, etc

seems super +EV in life to have a stocked and equipped kitchen

In LOL bahstan a place for 1k/mo will have basically nothing but a room barely enough for a bed and if you are lucky a kitchen the size of a walk in closet, and a living room that fits a loveseat and tv against the wall. If you had a washer/dryer/ dishwasher you wouldnt have enough floor space to walk.

2k/mo gets you a dishwasher and 25-50% washer/dryer

3k/mo gets you all 3

apparently "are you surprised that apartments can come without dishwashers and washing machines" is like a test to see if you've spent your whole life in flyover country

Washer/dryer depends where you live. I'm 30 and engaged, so in-unit is a must now 'cause I'm too old for that ****. In college, I didn't have it in unit and there's a laundromat with a bar near that apartment where it was a great place to meet girls on a Saturday afternoon without their stupid friends around.

Totally agree. Just moved into a new place and dishwasher was broken so we had to hand wash for the first week or two. It was pretty horrible and generally resulted in dirty dishes piling up and then having too many wet, "clean" dishes with not enough space on the drying rack. Landlord ordered a new dishwasher in a timely fashion like they are supposed to.

If a drying rack bothers you that much, they make towels nowadays which you can use to wipe down your clean dishes and not have to air dry them
