Especially in the first round where there are like 2-3 series whose outcome is reasonably up in the air.

Putting children in danger to get a video is never acceptable.
Jesus. This is dumb.

yea, I did. I do however think that in order to get money from the government (which comes from the taxpaying population) you should have a fairly high hurdle to reasonably prove that you need it. Presumably those with less need have a higher monetary return on their time than those who truly need it. Thus, people should, if acting rationally or near rationally, only pursue this if they are really in need.

This is horrible thinking imo.

He obviously didn't know that what happened was possible. I certainly didn't expect a blast that big. He probably just assumed it was a big contained fire and they were a safe distance.

To just assume this guy was knowingly putting his kids at risk for ****ing youtube hits is obnoxiously snobbish. They're from Texas/south/not where you're from, they're obviously too stupid to parent.

The guy made a mistake. Parents are allowed to make them. I'm sure the second the blast occurred his only concern was his children.

There are some parents who didn't evacuate the jersey coast, nyc, etc during sandy . Didn't evacuate new Orleans during Katrina.

Their are parents, right now, driving around with their kids while texting, doing makeup, whatever. Any uproar over that?

This is a super rare insane event. A little leniency and perspective is in order.

to be clear, I am not saying there should be purposeful delays, lines, unresponsive agencies, lack of available info, or anything like that. I just think that they should have to prove that they are making an effort to get a job (could be as simple as holding onto copies of apps they put in or getting someone to sign off on an interview) or that they are somehow unable to work-medical history should suffice. If they have a job they should have to provide tax return info or a series of paystubs or something. I don't think people in school should be able to get food stamps or anything like that even though they may qualify. I mean, I probably could have qualified in college or right after it before I got a job if I tried, but I probably wasn't even in the bottom half of actual need. People like me should be harshly excluded from the program and no loopholes should be exploitable to someone like myself.

why does a poor assumption make it ok to put kids at risk? lots of parents assume things are healthy or good for their kid when they aren't and these things are not ok either.

not evacuating during a catastrophe is certainly neglect at best when you have kids. I was in several as a child and we evacuated for all the ones that did any damage at all.

All the parents who drive while texting (or anyone for that matter) are being neglectful to everyone on the roads, including their kids.

news flash: most parents make a ****ton of "indefensible" mistakes.

I don't disagree. In my experience somwhere between 50% and 90% of parents are terrible, not due to lack of effort, but due to lack of ability whether cognitive, emotional, financial, or something else. Maybe I just hold parents to too a high standard.

Kids turn out fine with imperfect parenting, and making imperfect parenting a crime akin to child abuse is an absurd notion. Snatching kids away from guys like that and locking them up would just be totally ****ed.

Clear best solution for first-round NBA threads: one for Eastern Conference, four for each of the Western Conference series.

i read the awful SRM post last night outright attacking that guy for taking the video of what he really thought was just a fire

kc is right obviously, and it's not surprising some of the forum "experts" are on the other side here (Not counting SRM as a forum ******, but he's way off here)
