Am I the only one who thinks that the intense and ******ed media coverage on these tragedies makes things a lot worse?

At the very least, more media coverage = more incentive for future attacks like this

I think we as a country need to redefine what is and what isn't a terrorist attack.

I believe a "terrorist attack" should be an attack designed to inspire fear in the general populace such that they exert pressure on their leaders to enact policy changes.

One wacko blowing up people then offing himself completely disconnected from any other attacks falls much more under the designation of "some people just want to watch the world burn" than "terrorist attack".

Isn't this pretty much exactly what happened today? Real confused by this. I mean obv whoever responsible falls into the "some people just want to watch the world burn" category as well but they're not mutually exclusive or anything.

Obviously terrorist attacks can take many forms. Usually terrorist attacks will be followed up by somebody claiming responsibility and threatening future attacks until their policy demands are met.

So far, based on the information we have available, it is impossible to tell if this was done with a long-term goal in mind to force long-term policy changes, or if it was just a random act of senseless violence. I would not consider the latter to be a "terrorist attack".

terrorism = unlawful violence disregarding the safety of non-combatants intended to create fear; are perpetrated for a religious, political or ideological goal.

haven't read the Quran in awhile to confirm the religious goals.

Man, I'm still really shook. I come from a cop family on my Dad's side - if this happened in Chicago, I'd potentially have multiple uncles and aunts as first responders. And I don't mean that to be a flippant or insensitive comment, but that's all I could think about this afternoon at work

:/ I know what you're saying here.

Unfortunately all you can do is control what you can control. Be thankful for the people you have in your life and don't worry about the "what if"'s.

Yeah I think that's just kind of subconscious human nature. First thing I did when I heard was immediately text my parents and few of my closest friends to see if they had heard and I'm sure many had a similar reaction. Probably just making sure they were okay even though there was no logical reason for them to be in danger.

for the record, i felt like my local nbc affiliate (out of Providence) did a really good job of sticking to facts and not sensationalizing too much.

How often do flights get cancelled when the weather is fine?
Today I tried to fly for the first time since I was a child and mine did. Entire day wasted. Feels bad man. And they fed it to us like 30 minutes at a time too, that was demoralizing.

edit: wow, boston bombing.

In my experience that happens on about 68% of flights leaving atlanta

You ran bad. I've never had a flight cancelled and have flown probably 100 legs of trips.

This is absolutely untrue. Rockstar Recovery Lemonade. Actually tastes like your drinking lemonade and there's no sugar, which is amazing considering how much sugar is in regular energy drinks.

Coffee gives me heartburn/acid reflux. The Rockstar Lemonades essentially got me through college.
