Hmm, it appears he said something positive about kyleb in January and must have felt so dirty that he couldn't continue blogging after that

De Novo Lipogenesis is a real thing, and visceral adipose tissue is the dangerous fats. Fat is not supposed to go through your liver, dietary lipids skip your liver through the lymphatic system.

edited because maybe I don't disagree. I don't wanna read the first one until I can watch the video. But fructose is damaging, using sucrose is not some secret answer, though.

Although your second link is right on. HFCS is not much different than sucrose. Sucrose still has plenty of fructose. The issue is the way that it is concentrated and we can intake so much in a sitting/day/week.

People do overreact over HFCS, and it's not magically bad. I really don't believe its much different than sucrose. Ultimately having tons of sugar in highly concentrated ways is a problem. But the problem is not only the calories behind sugar. Different sugars do act differently in the body.

chim, out of curiosity, what kind of job do you expect to get with a masters in human nutrition? I'm trying to decide a major as I've got all my credits except well...enough to graduate with a major. Thanks

I mean.. I agree that people are out of line freaking out about the difference between HFCS and sucrose. Moderate consumption of almost anything is fine. The real problem with HFCS is it allows people to get tons of it in their system for cheap.

I'm probably going to try to focus on working in community settings, schools, or public policy stuff. It pays less than being a registered dietitian in a hospital, though, so I'm not entirely sure. I'll get RD credential and decide what I want to do, but right now passion is in the community side of things.

chim,

obv eating a ton of sugar is bad for you. i posted that stuff because richard is at the very least strongly implying that hfcs is the devil and sucrose is awesome and healthy and that viewpoint should be relentlessly mocked.

Phildo,

Most of that is referring to normal consumption levels. I agree that's not a problem. But taking in excessive glucose is less damaging than taking in excessive fructose because of the way the liver metabolizes it.

I also agree that sucrose isn't better, as I've pointed out a bunch of times.

Agree. It isn't accurate -- sucrose can be damaging as well.

I just have a lot of interest in the liver metabolism and find how fructose acts differently than glucose very interesting so responded too quickly.

I don't think we're actually disagreeing, and that was my fault for responding without actually reading everything you posted.

from what i understand HFCS is really only a concern in excessive quantities. like if you just have a soda or some crappy snack once in a while, the fact that it's HFCS and not just sugar doesn't make any difference. But if you're downing a bottle of aunt jemima's a day bad stuff starts happening. but i'm not going to look anything up and back it up with data.

here's the thing. stop worrying about this **** and get ****in' ripped and all this **** goes away. just ask loco.

and from what i understand if you were downing a bottle of aunt jemima throwback featuring sucrose it would be just about as bad.

interesting about glucose. i hadn't heard that before but i don't really pay all that much attention to this stuff beyond sufficient knowledge to lol at soccer moms and hippies.

Yes, that is correct. Syrup filled with sucrose and syrup filled with HFCS will react in the body in almost the exact same way. At least as I understand things and have learned them. I dunno if there is enough evidence to be 100% certain, but no advanced concept is nutrition is really 100% certain.
