Why would we assume that with a guy that preaches the virtues of variable rate loans? The Fed is a central bank not a part of the government. It may be subtle, but its an important distinction and actually has a different effect on policy than it would as an arm of the government.

This is something I think I've always had the ability to do but I guess never the will. I feel like if I stock my weekends full of things I want to enjoy doing, then I'll have more incentive to take it easier when I do go out.

The biggest snag I hit with this, and something I've searched for the answer to is how to maintain a social life without booze. Most of my friends, time and activities with friends, involve drinking in some form. Whether it's going to the bar to watch sports, going to a Cubs/other game where we're drinking, going out to dinner/bars, etc. It always has alcohol present.

I am not totally sure how to find things to do to fill time (especially on the weekends) where I'm not drinking. What are some things you do regularly that you enjoy, get excited about, but don't involve alcohol? Obviously I'm fortunate that I live in Chicago where every type of activity imaginable is available to me, but sometimes I look for something to do and the search just seems so overwhelming that I don't know where to begin and then I just put it off altogether.

its tough. i feel like i've been in the same boat for most of my 20s. i took a month off recently and it was really nice and i think helped me to have a little more control overall but there are def still times when i go totally overboard and ruin the next day. my hangovers started venturing into 2+ day territory which was the ultimate motivator for my month off.

the biggest key is find a few other guys who are interested in cutting back with you so that you've got company in doing some fun sober activities like rock climbing or rec bball or whatever. having a girlfriend also helps a tonnnn imo. when im single i cant resist going out drinking and meeting chicks at every opportunity.

Drink bourbon and water, stop drinking heavy beers and cocktails with sodas and sugar. Boom.

This worked wonders for a me a couple years ago. Stuck to it for a while and felt great, dropped some weight and wasn't a total ****up my last 2 years of college.

Trying to start to run on a regular basis to drop some lbs. New neighborhood has some paths through the woods which probably equal around 3 miles so that should do.

Zimmer,
You enjoy racquetball or anything like that? Seems like great exercise and if you can find a friend to get into it would be an easy way to occupy yourself

Probably a good idea, but the problem is that I really like beer but not bourbon. Been drinking beer since I was 13-14 though. Bourbon the same way?

The only Michigan beer you can get here in Louisiana AFAIK is Jolly Pumpkin, which I never went out of my way to drink once in my 10 years of living in Michigan. No bells, founders, shorts, etc. Still waiting on my 6 pack of hopslam my buddy said he was mailing to me 2 months ago!

This is just from surveying about 5 different bars in baton rouge that serve 100+ beers and a few in NOLA. I could be completely wrong though.
