This is what I mean by outdated, they do hose down French Quarter every day. With more than just water. There has been a ton of money injected (both government and private) into downtown especially but many other parts of the city as well. Major Superdome renovations, NOLA Arena renovations on deck, Champion's Square, Benson Tower, Convention Center expansion, major upscale grocery development in many neighborhoods, new streetcar line, tons of new restaurants and bars opening downtown, etc. All within the last 2-3 years.

It's also currently one of the best places in the country to find a job due to a number of growing industries. I'm a transplant and certainly don't have some lifelong connection to living here, but it has been massively on the upswing over the last few years and it's really obvious to people who live here. Yeah it has problems that are well known, but I've never felt unsafe and very few people who are half-aware and have half a brain run into much trouble.

I'm going to wait for the Hurricane Katrina clean up to finish before I visit NOLA, I can't swim.

Just to be sure it's safe we should probably have cdl hang out in the seediest parts of New Orleans for awhile.

Maybe share his world views with the locals.

clarks posts wrt nola have been spot on. lol @ him saying ahead of time that it was pointless to debate with nola defenders and then a bunch of nola defenders predictably nitpicking what was a very reasonable and accurate assessment.

Clark has said he has some long term friends that live around down here that are really passionate about the city and I certainly know the massive over the top type (a lot of whom look down at transplants anyway), but I'm not that and flirted with moving elsewhere as recently as a year ago just to possibly live in another place. It's just annoying to read things that are just incorrect and have him be like lol at debating it with anyone from there as if I've never seen anywhere he's talking about as a reference point.

All I've said is that some massive and noticeable infrastructure changes have happened and a lot of money has been put into many parts of the city in the very recent past. I gave some examples with the implication being you might just have your mind changed if your last visit was in like 2009 or something.

NLS is still mad at people chanting who dat after old man Favre chucked away his dreams to Tracy Porter. Sorry bro.

Yeah it's not fair to say "X sucks and lol at people defending X" when X is not something like scientology or Detroit or whatever.

No it wasn't me who stabbed 14 people today guys. 8 people? At some other location? Maybe. Not going to comment on whether or not I stabbed 8 people. But not 14. There was a double shooting at this campus like 5 months ago.

Speaking of things that are common in Detroit...

When the producers of RoboCop had to create a dystopian setting for their film, they said "We can do this with only $2 million. We just go to Detroit and spend $2 million fixing windows and building facades and cleaning people off the street. Then pay the mayor a bucket O' crack to let us film here."

he didn't say it sucks though. he accurately pointed out both its positives as well as its negatives.

and ya noze I am def still a little bitter about the nfccg but that has nothing to do with feeling a little less safe when walking around nola than most other major US cities. that said i'd obv still go back for a major sporting event or bachelor party or whatever. its obviously a great city to party in for a few days, i just think its massive over the top defenders that you alluded to are pretty silly. not saying you are one of them.

I feel like I am far more likely to be the victim of a crime in Vegas than anywhere I have ever been in NOLA. I have also heard dozens of first hand accounts of people getting robbed, extorted, drugged, pickpocketed, etc. in Vegas and not a single one from NOLA.

i have heard a lot of first hand accounts from people who were victims of crime in nyc but none from people who were victims of crime in juarez

therefore juarez is safer than nyc imo

while we're on the topic, i've heard a lot of first hand accounts from people who were victims of crime in san francisco but none from people who have been hit by an atomic bomb

therefore nuclear bombs are safer than san francisco

well, I have known a lot more people who have been to new orleans than ones who have been to vegas. but yea, I see why that statement doesnt tell the whole story, but on a percentage basis its also true. gang killings arent really a good measure of crime for tourist destinations since tourists aren't the target demographic for most gang murders.

wtf are you guys doing in new orleans that puts you in harms way though?
