I think I had a pretty unique HS experience. We had the highest rated public HS in the highest rated county in the state pretty much every year. The top 15% or so of the students were smart enough that we knew we had leverage over teachers if we banded together like a cartel or companies that are price fixing. By the end of sophmore year we just outright refused to write some papers, read certain books, take tests, do full homework sets, etc. Basically this put the teachers in a spot where they either had to give in or fail the 75% of the class that was cooperating on it. We forced teachers to cancel dozens of papers or tests over the next couple years and basically did at least 50% less work than we should have. Sure it was immature, but it was a pretty solid power play and allowed us to have a ton of fun.
Man, the rest of you sure got an easy ride thanks to that top 15%. Hope you bought them some beers.

I went to a standard high school in a lower-middle class town in Michigan.

City public high school. 480 students entered our freshmen class. 260 graduated. Of everybody who graduated, maybe 30-35% went to a 4-year college. Of those colleges, University of Michigan was the pinnacle of college attendance for anybody, and that was 5 people out of 260.

I was in all the AP classes (7 total offered in the entire school). Took 2 years of math at community college my junior/senior year. Calc II - Differential Equations and Statistics because they weren't offered at my HS.

It really isn't. We basically just had very few worries, knew we were smart, and knew the school cared about its reputation. Also, we took a bunch of AP classes and dominated the tests, had the most National Merit Scholars in the state, and sent more kids to top 10 US World News schools than any public school in the state for a few years running and the school really really really cared about its reputation which is basically the only thing that allowed us to get away with this. If they didn't care about their reputation they fail 5 or 6 kids who are going the furthest with the idea and the whole thing unravels. That said, we did worry about the kids who did all their work and looked down upon us forcing it all to unwind.

It was nuts, she studied way more than me when we dated in high school.
thats absurd. I would've hated that.

Well everyone knows you are a douche bag, it ain't a secret.

I just wanna know when/why it started. Maybe if you talk about it then it would be like the first step in your recovery process.

We're lucky that DFW was athletic enough to gain an understanding of a sport at the highest level. Nothing I have ever read by any former athlete or sportswriter has come close to how he conveys how good top pros are and just how large the gap is between them and everyone else.

That's cool. I assume she'd have people taking turns reading it so it engages them. That would presumably be the most effective way to get it to sink in.

So CDL was so smart that instead of doing some easy English assignment, he instead didn't do it, and had to sit out a golf tournament.

MAN YOU ARE SO SMART BRO.

Things about CDL we know:

1) He doesn't think Jerry Sandusky, the habitual child rapist, is a bad person.
2) He thinks it's normal to wear Kentucky Derby garb.
3) He thinks July or May are the worst sports months, instead of February.
4) He is so smart that he took punishment over doing some easy HS homework.

Went to a regular public school in southern Georgia, but actually think I received really good education. I was one of literally two people to sign up for AP Calc II and for AP Economics but they still offered the classes and the teachers knew their stuff. Hard to beat that, imo.

Death of A Salesman is probably my favorite HS forced read, though I'm sure I would have read it eventually just because it's Larry David's favorite reference.

it doesn't require much to be top 15% in a public school in Georgia. Even our school sent maybe 40% of kids to 4 year colleges and that was good for the area.

I don't think CDL can be considered smart if he feels like sharing that story in this thread. High functioning autistic more likely.

Heh, when my wife was there Germans were everywhere. I talked a lot of **** about how the 2002 german team was the worst team ever to make the finals of a world cup. That was fun.

She wouldn't suggest going there again. It was a pretty miserable high school experience that sucked so much time away from doing anything else.
