Oh actually the Tabasco chipotle sauce is pretty good on Mexican dishes. The original is not very good though.

ETA: I like Frank's Red Hot on eggs and breakfast foods. Have you tried that CDL?

Tabasco Green and Sriracha at the top. Tapatio the best cheap alternative.

Yea, I think everything above sriracha is some level of good AND versatile. Stuff like tabasco and cholula is versatile, but not very good imo. Sriracha is good, but lacks versatility imo. Stuff like Dave's Insanity or other really hot sauces are good, but have very very limited uses where they are acceptable as you have to use tiny quantities. Tabasco Chipotle is much much better than regular Tabasco and Extra Hot Texas Pete is worse than regular Texas Pete, but still has its uses.

I don't really like Cholula.. except on eggs where it is by far my favorite egg sauce.

I don't love Green Tabasco on that much, but for some reason it blends with Chipotle burritos perfectly.

Franks and Texas Pete are both top notch but I think franks has a slight bit more kick while still retaining the flavor.

Siracha is a specialty item that I only put on ethnic food

That green stuff with the hat is great when you want something nice and spicy

Feel the same way with sushi. Everybody loves it except for me. However, I've only had it a few times, so my experience could have been the result of bad variance. Going to give it another good faith try at a nice restaurant soon. What's the best stuff to get? I heard California rolls are good/safe. Any suggestions? I like most seafood, in general.

Just start with getting nigiri of a bunch of different things and find out what you like. Start with the basics: salmon, tuna, eel & yellowtail and go from there. Simple rolls like spicy tuna or salmon & avocado are good starts too. Stay away from rolls with like 97 different things drenched in mayo - you're never going to figure out what you like that way.

At the end of the day, no shame in not liking it.

california roll is pretty standard get

some kind of spicy tuna also usually pretty good. hamachi (yellow tuna) also good.

you can also get like a tempura shrimp or they usually have some kind of soft shell crab which is actually cooked if you arent digging the raw fish, as well as different cucumber or avocado rolls.

id say to stay away from octopus or roe. eel also kind of polarizing but most people enjoy it and its mild.

California Roll is kinda sushi for those that don't love sushi. Super standard/safe but the taste is pretty bland. You can dislike a California Roll and love plenty of sushi.

If you are gonna give it a shot really go for it, try some random fish. I love octopus, but all of it is quite good.

the opposite of this. I was in the same boat about 4 years ago and started with the more complex rolls, tempuras, lots of sauces, etc. to get to liking the flavor of that stuff where the fish wasn't the primary taste. Over time I started adding fishier rolls, then plain rolls, then sashimi and nigiri after a few years.

Just make sure you eat at good sushi places. Half the time the problem is crappy sushi in the first place.

You want to start with the mayo-loaded rolls and ease your way into nigiri and sashimi. Also rolls with anything fried.

If you start with pure raw fish you're far more likely to just think its gross.

California roll is fine if you're just getting into sushi, but lol at ever ordering it much after that. Much better tasting stuff once you acquire the taste.

the best stuff to get is toro. if it tastes even remotely fishy then you are in a crappy restaurant and probably going to get sick.

edit: if it's a texture thing then yeah just get whatever rolls with tons of crap. you'll probably never like nigiri or sashimi though.

What you want to do on a first date is take a girl to a massive pizza restaurant and buy her shots of jager in between slices

There's some pretty high quality all you can eat places here that do dinner for ~25 and lunch for ~15. It could be a decent way to try a lot of different things and figure out what ya like.

The kicker is that if you don't eat all of something they charge you quite a bit to entice people not to waste food. So if you go with friends that like sushi and would eat the rest of a roll you don't like it could be a good idea.
