This is basically 100% on point with what the neuro-whatever was discussing, though she described it as something that tends to get better during and after adolescence - one of her specific recommendations was to include scheduled pauses for bouts of physical activity every hour for the specific reason that boys' concentration wanes at the :45-hour mark.

In school I was smart enough to get by but procrastinating, lack of focus, lack of follow through and laziness if you care to call it definitely kept me from reaching close to my full potential. Grad school was where it became more of a problem, probably due to lack of structure, and so I have a Master's and not a Ph.D.

Other than the tardiness that started this topic, here are a few other day-to-day things:
- I lose my car keys more than anyone I know. They're usually in my last pair of shorts or coat but sometimes I set them in weird places without thinking, like on top of the fridge.
- If I get a glass out of the cupboard I'm a coin flip to close it. This used to drive my wife nuts, and probably still does. We greatly improved things by writing "CLOSE ME" on the inside of them. It feels pretty ****ing embarrassing to require such measures for a task so simple, but it was effective.
- I often fail to plan ahead with clothing. So say we're going to a barbecue that will go into the evening. If it's warm when I leave I'll forget to bring a sweatshirt unless someone reminds me.
- I have broken the battery cover on several remotes. When watching TV, without realizing it, I'll open and close the battery compartment over and over. I don't have the hyperactive symptoms all that bad, I definitely don't feel driven by a motor or always on the go, but I fidget and mess with stuff like that all the time.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog & Tardiness

I've only read bits of this conversation but I've always felt as though I have a mild form of one or more of these disorders. I am terrible for the remote thing, I've broken a bunch of battery cases in the past and also have to fiddle with something if I'm not otherwise actively doing something with my hands. I am also completely incapable of sitting still for any length of time, I always have to shift position every few minutes. However outside of the fidgeting/fiddling I'm not even slightly hyperactive (on that test I got 17/5) so certainly don't think I would be diagnosed with ADHD, and likely not ADD either.

I have actually always thought the disorder I was closest to was aspergers as I'm often very awkward in social situations, in particularly I'm completely unable to have any reasonable conversation without a lot of work on the part of the other person else or there is a very clear topic of discussion. Paradoxically I actually really enjoy social situations in which I am not required to help direct a conversation in any way and can just sort of tag-along.

I've never actually had anyone else mention anything to me along these lines though, certainly not as a child since I was always very good at school and so have never had any cause to be diagnosed for anything.

I fidget a ton and def have short attention span. That's hardly a lock to be ADHD.

eta: could be far off based on my own personal sample. Some of those questions, though. "Do you ever have trouble focusing on school, work, or any task?" Who doesn't?
We were having this discussion at our work just this last week actually (our job is a middle school/high school tutoring service) and the problem is definitely there.

Too often they "nod yes" or say "ok" when we explain something, but their gazes wander, and 5 seconds later it's "wait, how do we do it again?".

On top of that the other tutors tell me their students talk about how in social situations now these same kids and their friends are texting/doing whatever on their phone in groups at school during free time. Rarely/no talking, just them being in a group and texting to each other. You have to wonder how far behind this generation's social skills will be

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog & Tardiness

I have a circle of about 12 close friends and 5 of them are prescribed concerta/vyvance/adderall

It is a ridiculous wonder drug. If I grinded online poker every day I would absolutely get prescribed to it, I never played sundays without it. I "need" it too. Only in the sense that I can't imagine pulling all nighters studying or writing long papers without it anymore. I imagine many are similar. It is just a drug that literally makes things easier for everyone, it is pretty amazing. Can't imagine that lawyers/investment bankers, etc. wouldn't benefit from using it all the time.

MLB but my sample size of actually attending an nba game is 1

Way more groups of women who will go out to mlb games even when it isn't ladies night though compared to other sports it seems like

stress level is mother ****ing 2 percent. if i were any less stressed i'd be comatose.
