Well, I'm probably as ADD as anyone (not a brag) and understand exactly where you're coming from, but at some point a few years ago I became born again with regards to punctuality because it dawned on me how rude it was to others. Being on time became a priority.

Basically I don't think ADD is a particularly acceptable excuse in this case as it's just a matter of getting in the habit of building in more travel time. It doesn't make me a candidate for sainthood but it does make me slightly less of an inconsiderate *******.

People have touched on it already, and I'm a huge believer in owning up to your lateness. Being late sucks, but it compounds it when you string the person along saying you'll be there in 5min instead of the 40min reality. Don't do that, own it, be accurate. Five minutes gives me time to take a leak, maybe order a drink. Forty minutes gives me time to sneak out and murder a hobo.

To me the most important lesson I took from it is the philosophy that emotions are not "good or bad" but "helpful or damaging". Emotions like sadness or anger are given the broad tag of being "bad" in most western cultures, but they are appropriate and can be helpful in some circumstances, but can become damaging if they consume you. Really put into a proper perspective how to keep the range of human emotions in a healthy balance.
