Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog & FREE MONEY!!!

we'll probably be able to identify quite a few bad posters if we can get some more pics of people at horse races and have people post opinions on them over the next few pages.

I don't see how it applying to entire cities makes it any better. If it does apply to an entire city, the city is functioning like a social circle where a few people set the trend and then the herd follows.

And your last sentence is kind of my problem with it. It is socially acceptable among people who share that background and NOBODY ELSE. Try traveling to other parts of the world dressed like that and you look like a ****ing clown. Consequently I feel like people who come from these social circles are near indistinguishable from one another, likely because they don't know how to socialize with anybody other than their own kind.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog & FREE MONEY!!!

my fashion advice for the day:

leftmost guy: as stated, blazer+shorts is terrible, ditch the blazer and unpop the collar and it is ok i guess
leftmost girl: 100% fine, looks pretty hot actually
middle guy: pretty much fine with
middle girl: holy red, get longer necklaces please and ditch that abortion of a hat
rightmost guy: ditch the pattern in the pants and we are fine
rightmost girl: fine i guess, pretty uninspiring though

Dean: You're drawing some pretty questionable generalizations, imo. Literally all dress and fashion is culture-specific; I don't think these people are wearing this to the Milan fashion show. A lot of people would look stupid if they were instantly transported across the world in whatever they were wearing at that second.

everyone that I have ever met that would/has dressed like that for a horse race knows to wear a dark suit to an interview, dress pants and a jacket to a steak dinner, jeans/slacks and a button down to go to a casual dinner and bar/club, something casual and comfortable when walking around a European city, gym shorts to workout, and a bathing suit to the pool. Its not like they wear those clothes all day everyday. They dressed for the occassion. If the pic was taken before they went into their real estate 101 class at 11 am on a wednesday your point would stand, but that doesn't seem to be the situation.

If you go to a race in, say, Dubai, you just add a keffiyeh to the pastel button down and seersucker shorts imo

Agree with the last sentence but I'm talking moreso about personality type than location. I live in the NYC area where pretty much anything flies, and I think they would look uncool to anybody who isn't accustomed to that as standard attire.

Also this may a SSS thing, but I always felt irked by groups who dress like that. Something is off, it's like they are all soul-less replicas of each other. Don't really get the sense from other groups who fit a single stereotype. Maybe it's just me.

I'm sure there are lovely people who have happened to dress like that before. I'm kinda thinking of people who rock pastels and the such on the regular.

Mustard pants would bring far too much swag to the table.

well, I agree with you that the attire is not appropriate for most occassions, but I was under the impression we were discussing horse races specifically.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog & FREE MONEY!!!

I guess the real question is: Do they think they look like anything other than clowns there?

At Oktoberfest, it's pretty common for everyone to dress in some sort of odd Bavarian garb. Whether it's a feathered hat or full Lederhosen. The difference (I'm guessing) is that in that "when it rome..." situation, it's done with a sense of irony. It's not done because it looks great, it's the outregeous costume you wear for the event.

I get the feeling those guys actually think they look good, and that's scary.

I've never been to or watched a horse race, but that does not seem horribly different from standard superwhitey attire. It's just a little bit more over the top with the hats and such.

Das Boot being 22 kind of blows my mind. Thought he was late 20s for sure.

Can we do a quick SE FAQ age inventory? Feel free to round up if you are close to a birthday.

27 here.

Also if you buy decent quality shirts, no starch should always be your play. Make sure you use stays in your collar so you don't look like a donk (unless it's a button collar obv).

Yep its surely poverty that keeps people from wearing jackets and ties to a football game.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog & FREE MONEY!!!

I think the more slaves your ancestors owned, the louder you get to dress without being called out for looking like a clown.

It's like an "I dare you to make fun of how I am dressed. Our family plantation helped found the city I'm from." kinda thing.

Apparently, TheDean1's ancestors were sharecroppers.
