Watching porn in 3D seems a bit extreme, if not potentially elite. Can see plenty of downside if sharing the experience with a partner though.

Why would you say this? We all have different ideas of what constitutes fun. As C-Vig noted, they played somewhere with suboptimal percentages because they enjoyed the ambiance. Not everyone wants to go down to Fremont Street and grind the $1 100x odds craps table alongside a bunch of gummers waiting to die because it's the more financially wise play.

It's like titty bars. To me they're a horrific waste of money - unless you spend enough to get laid, in which case they are a slightly less horrific waste of money. But hey, a lot of guys like it and it's capitalism at its finest so to each his own.

Riverman's friends are living their lives and probably having a good time. We are sitting here on the internet discussing them. They win. The financial schism between him and them (possible incorrect pronoun usage) is probably mostly in his head and is only an issue because he allows it to be as I don't recall them engaging in any activities that were outside of his budget.

When I tried to perma myself a couple months ago Riverman said I took the internet way too seriously. I thought he was right and I've tried to stop taking this stuff so seriously. I've started ignoring posters who just draw me into bad fights (1 dude). I wouldn't even think about venturing into the religion forum. I really think he needs to stop posting about religion and politics and live and let live. The last couple months in SE it has seemed like he's been on an actual anti-religion crusade. Does he really think people care about his opinions? Not a single person is going to change their mind because of what he says.

How do you think people change their minds? I'd think discussion in internet communities is a pretty huge reason for the growth and spread of anti-religious sentiments. Was certainly a huge factor in how my current views were shaped during my formative years. Just because he's not convincing whoever he "debates" doesn't mean his words are valueless.

tuq,

I am not saying that looking for the best odds in vegas and grinding for minute EV is the most fun. It sounds like their overall demeanor of looking down on Riverman for bringing beer to play golf, acting snobby toward him and his life situation compared to them, and wanting to play a blackjack game because of asian dealers is fun in a naive childish way, but not fun in a millionaire in vegas way. Maybe I am off base here.

Riverman could just as easily have been misinterpreting things, when you go into a situation looking for things to hate you're probably not going to have fun. Also, lol at a person on this forum getting depressed over running bad over such a short period of time. Riverman is a very good, entertaining, and smart poster. Hopefully he's just in a slump and it gets better.

I guess this is right but in his case I think it really, really bothers him that people believe in a "fake person in the sky" or whatever. Or vote Republican. Healthy debate is fine and maybe he has changed somebody's opinion (for the better?) but it's such an uphill battle and it seems like it really gets to him.

the thing is that this is rivermans perception and he is very neurotic. I think its very likely that they were just trying to have a good time with riverman, didnt look down on him in a social-economic way, but wondering why he was being so emo. Not trying to kick a man when hes down, but the problem seems like rivermans personality, tbh.

Wouldn't be surprised if Riverman's description of his friends is accurate. People letting success go to their heads isn't exactly a new thing, and I've seen a number of people turn douche when they start making x amount of money, where x is a much smaller amount than what he says his friends make.

As others have already said, the odds are close to 100% that he is projecting this onto them. Who invites someone on a trip just so they can belittle that person?

It seems like he's on a different page than these guys, perhaps in many ways, and only the history of their friendship is keeping them together. He'd be better off hanging out with people with whom he has more current interests and views in common. But, frankly, my read on Riverman based off of his posts is of a pretty miserable person so I'm not really sure he wouldn't pick nits no matter what. Perhaps surrounded by a group of like-minded angry cynics he would shine.

lets share vegas bad beat stories for riverman.

I was 17 and playing underage at the rio. I limped in in late position with 97 suited i think and flop a straight. put in 800, which was all the money I had at the time, on the turn vrs a set and I fist pump before realizing that the river paired the board and the dealer stopping me to say that the guy had a full house. I was hanging out with some baller tourney players who were staking me at the time, so i just crashed in their room and we had food fights after they got back from the strip clubs. It was a lot of fun.

last yr in the summer, i have kk otb and raise a small amount to get action from the blinds. flop is 3 5 9 rainbow. i get c/r on the flop and just call. he jams the turn for ~220 in a 70 dollar pot. i think for a minute considering a fold (lol) just because im so inexperienced live, but he just has so little combos of hands that beat me obv. I call and he has A 8. river ace ldo. I was kind of heated at the time b/c losing actual money in front of you has a different effect than online, but then i bought one of those 22 dollar yard long drinks and bet on the royals +175 vrs the tigers (ended up winning). The mgm sports book was so cool and i was just happy and thankful to be there.

Buddy comes to Vegas for a weekend. $6k roll. Zero other money. Prepaid hotel. I meet him. He bets $1k on black because "Wesley Snipes says always bet on black". It comes red. Does it again. Red. Again. Red. Again. Red. Last $2k on black. "f*** it". Red. Spends 3 day weekend watching friends gamble and borrowing enough money for food.

Won't have my own Vegas story until I go for a buddy's bachelor party later this summer.

Clark's story reminded me of my favorite roulette story from 2p2's own FWF

Quote:
The rest of the summer, I was the ultimate grinder. I would play 20 to 40 hour sessions at Foxwoods, deliriously drive back to New Haven, pass out for 12 hours, drive back to Foxwoods, and repeat that cycle again. I often had people come up to me and ask me if I lived in the casino because I was always at the tables. By the end of the summer, I had made $14k. I thought I was so rich, I told my brother I was going to buy a Rolex and a car. He told me that spending my net worth on a car and watch would not be particularly responsible, but I wasn’t thinking like a pro: I was just some college kid who backed his ass into some money. Towards the very end of that summer, I played in a 3-handed game and got owned and out-played every which way by Clint (aggie on twoplustwo). I got so tilted at chunking off 3k to him that I went and played roulette. I put $50 on red. It came up black. I put $100 on red. It came up black. I put $200 on red. It came up black. $400 on red, it came up black. $800 on red, it came up black. $1600 on red, it came up black. $3200 on red, it came up black. Another $3200 on red, it came up black. My last $1500 on red, it came up black. In 9 roulette rolls, I managed to lose my whole summer’s worth of work. As I was sitting at the table shell-shocked, a pit boss comes up to me and we have the following dialogue:
Him: “Man, that was brutal.”
Me: “Yeah, no ****.”
Him: “9 in a row, that’s disgusting.”
Me: “Yeah, no ****.”
Him: “I’m telling you man, you should have bet black.”
Me: “Wait, wat?”
Him: “I’ve been working here for 30 years, I tell you, sometimes people ride a rush and make a ton, and sometimes they don’t ride it and they always regret it. Should have gone with black.”
Me: “Sir, I’ve been up for 30 hours. I’m starving. I’m broke. The last thing I need is to be lectured to by some moron who believes in continuous probability.”

Being grateful in the wake of defeat is no way to cheer up a misanthrope. You should have lied and said you punched someone in the face and got arrested or something.
