I know it has been talked about before but I never cease to be amazed by American sports being communist/totalitarian with European being damn near anarchocapitalist

That's a pretty weak analogy. The salary caps prevalent throughout american sports are designed to make owners rich, not to give money back to anyone.

Forcing the big boys to play the majority of their games against East Bum**** FC is just a much less efficient version of revenue sharing imo

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and ... wat?

grunge: dropping the number of games in an MLB season would never happen and should never happen. for one thing MLB stands to lose a ton of money as a result, for another, more than any other sport the accumulation of bulk stats and the accompanying milestones and chase for those milestones have a huge allure in baseball. to distort and/or remove them altogether would suck for a lot of the existing fans

Does soccer even have revenue sharing and/or a salary cap

Varies a lot league to league. In England, no to salary cap, but there's been moves to limit salaries very recently. Clubs have to try to at least break even and there's a limit on how much salaries can grow in one year. They split TV revenue.

Yeah you need to explain why it's AIDS. Seems like a great way for MLB to kick teams like the Royals, Pirates, and Astros to the curb for rubbing dat revenue sharing money on their titties and trotting out $20 Million payrolls.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and ... wat?

I mean, P/R in the US is completely unworkable as is because of the way our leagues have come about, but the idea of fluid leagues that balance based on performance is pretty cool on its face.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and ... wat?

i love to see a baseball environment with a 100+ franchises in 'murica with some sort of promotion/relegation, would be cool to have a multiple teams in different leagues in major metro areas

also cup type competitions would be sweet due to the variance-filled nature of baseball, i mean even the astros will win 2 out of a 3 game series a dozen times this year

Relegation would definitely offer some excitement for fans of teams towards the bottom of leagues.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and ... wat?

Does one soccer club really have the chance to win more than one title or tournament a year?

No salary cap? Sounds like baseball. Yikes.

US cheapskate owners lining their pockets is dumb but the Rivermans of the world (rip) slitting their wrists is entertaining.

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and ... wat?

Sure, if Tony Romo throws that 3rd pick then the Cowboys will finish .500, fail to make the playoffs, some 2+2ers will lol at you, but next year it's all forgotten.

If random Wigan player fails to do his job properly on the final day of the season then that's it, relegation. The party is still going on, but we're no longer invited. Might be back in a year, maybe in 5 years, or it might take 100.

I hereby do declare that there's nothing more intense in sports than when your team is involved in a relegation battle.
