rut roh, Henry and his gf have taken over the Dorner thread in OOT. This probably won't end well, kinda like the Amanda Knox one.

Omar is massively overrated. He has some nice moments, but is not a top 20 Wire character.

My favorites are Clay Davis, Stringer, Bunk, McNulty, Maury the crooked lawyer, and the GOAT, Lester.

It could, albeit I'd be much more likely to buy a 'cultural evolution' hypothesis than what is traditionally viewed as evolution.

you mean Big Chief Lester 'Albert Lambreaux' Freamon?
interesting (or not) the similarity between Lester meticulously making miniature dollhouse furniture and Big Chief Albert meticulously sewing beads on a costume.

Perfect timing for the discussion since fat tuesday was yesterday. did you have a bite of king cake?

Clarke Peters is fantastic.

Lester Freamon just so ****ing elite.

The scene that culminates with him saying "You follow drugs, you get drug addicts and drug dealers. You follow the money, you don't know where the **** it's gonna lead" is my favorite of the entire show.

But I will contribute.

When I was younger I had to go to 'Arabic School' (yep, lol me) on Saturday mornings. When you're a child and all your white peers are getting their Saturday lie in / Nintendo fix, this sucks pretty hard. Unless I was playing a football match, I didn't have a choice.

Anyway, after a few years my parents moved us to a different school because they got fed up of doing the hour (or more) drive on a Saturday morning with three moaning kids in the back. The new school was less than a five minute drive.

This place felt like a full blown Islamic detention centre. I guess by birth I'm a Muslim. But I don't practice nor ever intended to and am an atheist. The same probably applies to most of my close and extended family. However, as a child it's not quite easy to tell your teacher that you're a non-practising Muslim. Especially when she's a religious nut. Such a thing doesn't exist to her. I was forced to pray, which involved washing myself in the sink of some filthy bathroom beforehand, and forced to learn and recite scripture from the Quran. I neither understood, cared nor could actually read what was written. I would write it out phonetically and covertly hide my 'cheat sheet' while I read it out.

I was eventually found out and the teacher decided it wise to discuss the matter with my mother. Well that didn't go down well. Once she found out the extent of what was happening at the school, she pulled us out immediately. We later found out that the teacher in my sister's class told her the devil lived in the toilet and would know if you've been bad

Who would recommend such a place? Christians. Yep. Some family friends, who happened to be Christian sent their kids there and my parents tagged along. The schedule for the day was split as follows:

Session 1: ISLAM

Session 2: 20 minutes learning Arabic

Session 3: ISLAM

So while us 'muslims' were locked inside being punished, the Christians were outside playing sport.

Best Wire character is the one that gave us "MY NAME IS MY NAME" and "You want it to be one way, but it's the other way". Also the only one that survives.

MY NAME IS MY NAME was one of the most contrived, unrealistic disasters in the entire five seasons. Yeah, we just rounded up the 5 most wanted drug dealers in Baltimore, lets leave them all in a cell together to talk strategy.

In fact, I will purchase one (1) copy of one of his most recent books on the topic for any SE regular who asks. Kindle or hard copy, I don't care which. The book you will receive is:

Beyond Religion - Ethics for a Whole New World
I'll take the book if no one else has chimed in

Re: SE FAQ, Liveblog and Free Dalai Lama Book

It really was amazing. First 3 quarters of the ad were about some kid with tumors who can't walk, which is apparently a genetic thing passed down from his mom, who also can't walk. Dad works two jobs to support the family, but the bills keep piling up, and they can't pay their heating oil bill. Figured it was going to be some NYS program or something, but nope, their bill gets paid thanks to the generosity of the people of Venezuela and Hugo Chavez!
