We've had a number of OT politicalesque discussions (FAQ and SF player gay comments thread) and all have worked out well lately. I have no problem with it as long as the level if discourse stays high.

We survived a night of gun control debate we can handle 20 posts about politics directly after the SOTU

I thought you were against big government karak? Tisk tisk. Keep this up and ill deport your illegal immigrant ass out of the greatest forum in the land and back to the Starcraft subform.

SE discusses societal issues better than the Politard forum, when the issues come up, IMO.

Empirical data is appreciated more than homerism here, I'm saying that tends to extend into other discussions outside of sports.

Whereas politard walls of text are more rhetorical techniques to persuade than using data to discover an answer to a question.

100 word maximum* for politard posts or ban.

*50 word maximum for known lolitards.

Mostly because this is correct:

so basically this argument about whether to allow political posts derailed the actual political posts and is like 9x more annoying than the political posts ever were

If it bothers you that much perhaps it's time to step away from the internet for a smidge.

Mostly I'm delighted that guidelines have been established for future banning of known politards.

A lot of well-meaning people today trying to be as polite as possible when asking me if I'm aware I have dirt on my forehead. Ash Wednesday reactions are hilarious.

Actually, the fact that Riverman is convinced it's all a sham makes me feel pretty good about my chances in my own personal Pascal's Wager, tbh.

I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic elementary school. I remember Ash Wednesday was always the strange day in high school where people weren't sure if they should tell me about what was going on, on my forehead.

The crosslist of people who post heavy in SE and Politards (and would lead the SE politard discussions) is more than enough reason to ban all politarding here
