Had kangaroo in Australia. It was a little gamey, but in an intriguing, tangy way.

I only had the pigeon breast, again cooked relatively rare. The rest of the meat ended in a pate/terrine, that i was unfortunately not present to sample.

There's no rule that you can't substitute a prime rib for turkey imo.

I have rarely ever sent back food in a restaurant. Why did you send the steak back? Guessing it was overcooked?

im the same way, i usually just deal with it

basically i was there with like 10 of us, maybe 8 idk. all ordering kobe beef.

i got the ribeye, it was cooked perfectly. nice crust. however, it was pretty tasteless and not tender. everyone else at my table is having gasms over their food. I had to beg one other guy to try a bite of mine as validation.... "there is some chewing to be done". i honestly felt like i had had better steaks at home from costco.

i told the maitre d, he took it back no questions asked. i told him it was cooked to perfection but it tasted like it had no seasoning and that it was tough, and that i assumed i must have just gotten a bad cut for some reason. switched to my the skirt which my friend had which was melt in your mouth.

basically i was like no ****ing way is this a $109 steak. it also had no cap on it, who the **** eats a ribeye with no cap?

im sure the chef was thrilled that he had a 23 year old kid sending back his $109 steak!

edit: i also was really into top chef at the time and all i could think about was tom colicchio judging the meat i got and complaining about seasoning

That makes sense, as we already touched on "Kobe" beef in America isn't really Kobe beef and is a marketing tactic, although the phrase still has value in America and usually means a top end Prime cut, but I imagine there are times when substitutes are used.

i mean idk what it was supposed to be... but every kobe steak was over $100 bucks, non kobe was more reasonable $40-60. ive been to bobby flays restaurants multiple times and the most expensive steaks are like $60 and i have to assume those are high end cuts

Looks like some Kobe beef can actually make it into America! Though the first place in NY to have it was charging $350/ steak, so not sure if it is real in places that charge much less.

Ok, pet peeve: people complaining that Kobe beef isn't really Kobe beef, because it's not imported from Kobe, Japan.

Never seen anyone complain that their Buffalo wings weren't from Buffalo, NY.
Never seen anyone complain that their Peking duck wasn't from Peking.
Never seen anyone complain that their philly cheesesteak isn't from Philadelphia.
I see no reason why "Kobe beef" should be any different. You're not buying the location of where the cow is grown, you're buying the style of beef cut from cattle raised in a certain way.

The really ironic thing is that there is a legitimate complaint against Wagyu-style beef: the cattle are not raised at all as their described. We're often told stories of Kobe cattle being massaged for hours, but that's usually false: most wagyu cattle are chained or crated, standing in their own manure, with no movement allowed to keep the meat tender. Conditions can be as bad or worse than veal is treated. One of many sources.

Yet somehow everyone's so ready to pounce on "not technically from Kobe!" rather than the fraud about how the cattle are actually treated.

Ok rant over.
