Scallops > Calimari obv.

But I've eaten scallops at many high end places. I think once was it a "wow" moment. Put another way - if you're at a place good enough to do a proper scallop, you're always going to be better getting a really well executed fish dish or a great steak or some lamb or duck or something. There's never any reason to order it except possibly as a single-bite per person appetizer that everyone shares.

Though maybe you're right as scallops can be tricky. I've had plenty of good ones out though. None as good as my mom's.

KC,

If it weren't for opinions like yours, it would cease to be overrated.

I've had plenty of good ones. One great one. It's got almost no VORF value at a good place.

Can't argue against Mom - Mom cooking is always off the table in discussions like this.

steak has the highest ceiling, fish has the lowest floor, chicken is the steady starter who never delivers anything spectacular or disappointing. discuss.

I agree. BC>>>Ranch, but, IIRC, there was actually some discussion about it where it seemed like the opinions were about split. It was somewhat settled when EvanJC came in and said that they're both the same sauce, *******s! (which I think is really only applicable for some pizza joints, but I'm not sure).

And yea, I agree with Clark; scallops as an app is acceptable (even though I still most likely wouldn't do it). Other than that, every other protein as an entree will trump a scallop dish.

Scallop > tuna and fish wtf.

I will grant you that you've certainly eaten at more fine restaurants than I have, so there's that. I've had scallops at a few, usually as part of an appetizer. There was one real good seafood place in SF my family went to and I recall the scallops and tuna were both fantastic.

If I go to a nice place and their scallops aren't up to snuff with what I can get at any decent place where I grew up, then they're failing. Any number of places I can go on a nice summer day, enjoy some scallops and beer by the water. Perfect.

Nothing to discuss here; pretty much agree with this post.

Actually, I had one mind blowing (spectacular) chicken dish at a restaurant in Toronto (Scaramouche), a few months ago.

Edit: it wasn't chicken, it was partridge.

I agree at high end seafood place I would only order scallops as appetizer or as an addition to my main course. f scallops as my only protein
