Yeah I should have said there's a bunch of bands i like but none that have a super impressive catalogue. My Morning Jacket is probably my favorite "00s" band. Everything I like from the last 13 years is like super eclectic since there hasn't really been a cohesive music movement (electronic maybe?).

A lot of my favorite 00s bands were (technically or otherwise) formed in the 90s. Wilco, Of Montreal, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, The White Stripes, etc.

I linked to this for the great music, but a depressing number of the links have been removed for copyright

Good Bands/Artists from the 00's: imo

Arcade Fire
The Black Keys
LCD Soundsystem
The National
The New Pornographers
Animal Collective
TV on the Radio
The Strokes
Grizzly Bear
Kings of Leon
The Hold Steady
Phoenix
The Shins
The White Stripes (1st album out in June '99)
Muse (1st album out in Oct. '99)
My Morning Jacket (1st album out in May '99)
Queens of the Stone Age (1st album out in Sep. '99)

probably lots more i'm forgetting or don't know

not an awful decade for music startups really, it's just different bc it seems like you have to work harder to find stuff that fits your tastes

I like that list. Sigur Ros, Nico Vega, and Bright Light Social hour are also good recent bands

good list 72o. I thought about making a list but I felt like it would take too long.

so instead i'm just going to post one of my favorite deeper Ted Leo cuts:

also I think the New Pornographers' first three albums make them one of the best bands of the 00s

btw, alert for indie nerds: I saw Jeff Mangum last May at the new Austin City Limits hall (and was fortunate enough that I got to see him up close). If he comes to play anywhere near you I highly, highly recommend it.

Mogwai is my favorite post-rock band.

I wouldn't know where to start listing my favorite post-'00 artists. The list of albums I listened to most in 2012 has many of my top 25, I guess.

I've been addicted to these two songs lately: "Swimmers" (0:08-0:38 make me very emo; the bass and guitar are crazy good); "Love Play."

In 2004 I got to see The Rapture, Interpol, and Mogwai open for The Cure

every bit as awesome as it sounds, if that sounds awesome to you

also one more favorite from the 00s, the New Pornographers' lead guy doing some solo work
